Formerly unregistered posters

Now I understand that there are loads of people out there who had never previously been registered but have relevant things to add to a discussion and now have because you can't post otherwise....but the site has a greater "moron" feel to it since it has been re-launched.

    Anyone agree?

I dunno, I mostly see the same old people in the forum. Do you mean the comments?

The only place that unregistered users couldn't post before was in the forum. So by 'the site', do you mean 'the forum'?

People posted more shit in the comments section as unregistered users, making everyone register will improve the comments sections.

So how does the site have a greater moron feel to it?

I'm lost and a bit pissed off.

I've seen no increase in moronity around here...

Yeah, sorry it's early....the comments on articles. Just had a quick look at the "Revolution mid 2006" article and gently knocked my head off the monitor.

I bet you had unregistered people ignored before, right? That would explain it.

    Didn't everyone?

I hope that forcing folk to register helps the comments sections but for now it just seems that it's mostly tits who are taking the time.

I don't see how making people register will make people stop posting shite. It's free to register and all you can do to stop them is ban them, but if all they are doing is posting shite anyway why would they care? The only people that will care about being banned are the people who use the site to comment seriously. And once the tards are banned I bet they log in elsewhere and spam because they've been banned.

    edit: spelling

Unfortunately there's not stopping a tard being a tard. We hope that them registering will give us slightly more control over their actions, and act as a small deterrant (sp?) to them.

The real problems before hand weren't for the large majority who had unregistered people ignored, but for those viewing the site for the first time, and who had to cope with all the nonsense.

    We'll see.

Yeah, I can see your point there. I wasn't nit picking or anything - just an observation.

    Hopefully it'll work itself out.

I quite enjoyed the comments with unregs included.
    Hilarious read usually.

Nope. Though I do suggest, if it annoys you, that you ignore specific tards. That way, if enough people ignore them they'll get the message eventually.

Everyone being registered gives us more control.

Was really expecting this to be a welcome thread to all the comments regulars who have been forced to register. I’d be quite offended by this thread if I was one of those. There are some very decent posters in the comments. I’ve noticed a lot of industry types and developers seem to add their 5p, and a lot of people who don’t want to give EG an email address for spam reasons post there too.

I think it’s a good thing that they have to register, and I wouldn’t assume that it means there’ll be an influx of tards. There seems to be enough of those finding there way in here these days anyway. I doubt very much that the average comments spamtard or h4xx0r will go to the trouble of registering.

Like mal says, the time has come for us to start getting a bit more liberal with ‘ignore’. Hopefully those that repeatedly start threads that seem to get no replies at all will get the message.
