Purchased my first car on financé round 14 months ago (VW Polo). Since then my financial situation has improved and ideally i'd like to upgrade to something better, A Golf GTI etc.

Anyway, could anyone give any advice or whether it's even advisable to return cars early? I've really no idea, i'm assuming it revolves around any equity that might be in the current car but does anyone have any advice/done similar.

If you return it early say goodbye to any equity that you think you have in it..

I've done this with Ford. It clears the outstanding finance and any value left over goes into any upfront deposit offered by yourself or by dealer contribution. It brings the monthly repayments down but the lower the repayments are the higher the GMFV is to pay if you want to keep the car at the end of the agreement. Obviously if you don't ever intend on keeping the car then the GMFV doesn't matter to much.

I cant remember how much equity they thought was left in mine but it wasn't much. I only did the deal because of the promo/discount and I was getting the price of my 1st year service back.

My deal is over three years, Id keep what you have now, look after it and trade it in before the 3rd year service is due. By then they might have a new Golf GTI model out to.

    And don't get the golf.
You can get practically the same car from Seat or Skoda for far less.

If it's a diesel, hang around a few months as it's probably not out of the realms of impossibility to give it back and demand your money back

Octavia, same chassis and engines. You can get it with the 184bhp diesel engine from the golf GTD.
    Volkswagen/audi group innit.
