Another vote for Fallout 4 here.

It felt like the whole settlement building thing was supposed to be a large chunk of the game's content and allure. I thought it was terribly implemented. It was annoying in just about every regard and it felt like half the game was lost on me as a result. The other half of the game just sort of, well, ended on a bit of a wet fart. It also seemingly bottlenecked you into endings without much warning.

Another vote for fallout 4, too much faffing about for my liking.

Really trying to get into it but given up.

To be honest, I think I'm finding everything overrated now.. I just want games to be fun again. Maybe I should just let up the GameCube and DC and never move on :)

Dragon Age Inquisition, unquestionably. Critical acclaim upon release, then Witcher came out and people seemed to remember what a good RPG was, which isn't shallow gameplay, repetitive quests and a storyline with zero urgency.
All those complaints are just as valid with The Witcher

Combat is as bad as Assassin's Creed. Traversal is fine but a non event.
The "use your Witcher senses to find shit" quests were old and tired well before the midpoint.
"I need to find Ciri! Not before I trick out and travel the land in order to complete my Gwent deck, get into bar brawls and go horse racing with posh twats".

(for what it's worth I really enjoyed and played both to completion).

Witcher 3 was the biggest, without question. Horrible combat and the greatly disliked the feel to movement. Couldn't bear to listen to Geralt either. Ridiculous swaying trees some did my nut in too. Askham Knight was pants too. Maybe Metal Gear 5 was the biggest letdown in fact... Sigh, maybe I'm just losing interest.

On the flipside I loved Bloodborne, Until Dawn and Life is Strange. That's about it really.

Ok, most of those are common (yet still overblown) criticisms of Witcher 3.

But complaining about the swaying trees? Really? What was wrong with them?

Would a mod please change the thread title to, "games I do not enjoy but other people did" or something similar. This would please me.

Imo the witcher senses are the only thing that is repetitive about those quests. I liked DA:I, but a good proportion of side quests boiled down to "find this thing and bring it back".

The thing that is remarkable to me about Witcher 3, on the other hand, is that very little of it feels like filler. Yes, you're using your witcher senses to find shit, but almost every one of those quests has a story, and little twists to the story that make it interesting. Hell, even the treasure hunts have little stories to them.

The only things that really seem pointless filler to me are the horse races. And I guess Gwent too, but Gwent is fun so I'll let it slide. :p

Only overrated by the media though. Most gamers seem to dislike it.
what's not to like about her story? it's such a clever way of making making a game out of investigating. really loved it.

not really 'overrated' but mgsv was dissapointing to me. the gameplay loop was so good but then i did it 1000 times and it lost all the thrill. don't think the game did a great job of making the upgrades/gear meaningful when it clearly wants you to spend 95% of the game choking and tranq-pistoling guys, so you can fulton them.

The main problem I had with the witcher 3 is that I just didn't find it enjoyable. And not in a haunting, bleak atmosphere way.

I can't pinpoint exactly why I found it so unenjoyable. The basic movement felt off, far from the worst game I've ever played but enough to constantly bug me. Small things like picking a flower making you pause movement briefly. Overlong conversations, even if they're decently written.

I understand that some people can over look those points but they really got in my way. And I really wanted to like it, I like fantasy stuff, especially the sort of grimdark world the Witcher is set in.

Fallout 4 almost had the opposite problem, I find the basic gameplay actually enjoyable but the world it inhabits was quite shallow and the more you poke at the seams the less satisfying it becomes. Character and faction motivations made less sense the more you considered them. If I had just ignored the main story I'd probably still be playing but the main quest put me off.

And Metal Gear 5 is an exceptional 40 hour game stretched to 80 odd hours. The basic gameplay is superb, but some of the other mechanisms are rubbish, like the weapon researching. And the game does feel unfinished. I don't wish it was longer but I wish it had been better paced and had storylines resolved in place of some of the filler.

It got the glowing reviews because it is pretty much the best, ridiculously interactive (stealth) sandbox in gaming. That's easy to see even if you didn't like it, surely?

I honestly can't think of many games I've played recently that I think have been "overrated" (by reviewers). I guess Fallout 4? But reviews were (relatively) lukewarm on that one, so I couldn't really call it overrated.

/perhaps thinking about this too much

The only game I can think of this gen that I've played and feel is genuinely overrated is Destiny.

Fallout 4 might edge it as my biggest disappointment though.

Rise of the Tomb Rider, but in the sense that is seems to be overrated by the public on forums, whereas the good but not spectacular reviews it received on most sites are on the money IMO.

Yeah 5 is very close to gaming perfection to me. So much fun stuff to do, and a great technical achievement even on aging hardware. Still playing it regularly today (got it on launch day on PS3) and didn't even touch multiplayer so far. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the car handling but quickly got used to it and really quite like it now.

Personally I would probably say Fallout 4, also think disappointing is the better word for it rather than overrated. Mind you, I never played the game (laptop wasn't up to scratch) but spent an evening youtubing a Let's Play from early via mid game to the final mission and ending and it's safe to say it seems I really didn't miss much. Loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas to bits otoh.
