I think more than a few of you lot mourning the loss of GT should give Classic Game Room on YT a shot.

There is no one out there posting video reviews, including GT, that are more loving and enthusiastic about the positives of gaming. The guy is great fun to listen to, and the footage is always honest and representative of the gameplay.

Their reviews were usually pretty good to watch and get a feel for what a game is like.

Plus you got the added entertainment of guessing the score, which I can only assume they worked out by throwing a dart at a board consisting only of 7, 8 and 9.

News is definitely saddening, was shocked when I read about it. Loved some of the content they've provided over the years: GT Countdown, Pop Fiction, Retrospectives and the occasional game review. All fantastic stuff.
And loved how almost all the reviews were voiced by one man, but written by different writers.

Some of the highlights on the aforementioned shows for me.

Pop Fiction: On the hidden island of the Dam level in Goldeneye.

GT Countdown: Top 10 Years in Gaming (2016)

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Retrospective

GT Countdown: Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2016
Because what big gaming media outlet would have Persona 5 as their number 1 on their most anticipated game of 2016, over the other big, more mainstream competitors.

It's a shame to see the demise of such a long lasting and well established gaming site, and I hope they all find new jobs soon.

Having said that, the news didn't surprise me at all. Traditional game critic sites have clearly lost their influence among a growing demographic of gamers - as a site that focused on video content, they are undoubtedly losing out to the YouTube and Twitch markets. Adblocking can't be helping either.

There will be plenty of places to go for live conferences still, for those concerned about that. The usual sites have got more reliable in recent years, I've found.

Quite enjoyed the GT Countdown videos, the other stuff not so much.

Always a shame to see people lose their jobs.

I mean, GT obviously started to try to court the Youtube audience, who only watch videos of people mugging like cerebral palsy people on meth, and Huber was that attempt.
GT precedes YT by 3 years, so maybe you're just talking crap?

Not really, there was a clear shift to the personality driven style over the last... say two years or so?

Used to love invisible walls but gave up because Shane and Marcus were just the biggest arseholes in gaming and frequently talked over all the other speakers.

I think the last one I listened to was Shane arguing with Marcus that Fallout New Vegas was false advertising because it took you a couple of hours to get to Vegas. This argument lasted almost an hour. I only sat through it out of sheer disbelief that anyone could be that much of a knob.

If my cat ever expresses half that much genuine enthusiasm, it's getting taken to the vet. Also, he is not allowed to stand on the furniture.

GT ain't Kotaku, Polygon, or Eurogamer. They are not smart or funny, or really have much to say about the industry that is worthwhile.
So how exactly do they differ from the others?

Pop Fiction, that's it. It was a shame they got rid of their more creative types that published that series (although the bloke himself was a bit of a bore) and they were left with 3 blokes sitting around a table reviewing and rating trailers- as exciting as it sounds.

Feels similar to when CVG closed. My earliest memory of GT was trying to download the 20 minute Metal Gear Solid 3 trailer on dial up.

Super sad. Dont know why they didnt have youtube ads after they abandoned their broken site.

Watching Brandon crying in the goodbye video summed it up for me.

Nothing left to watch online or on my podcasts now.

This may be slightly over the top but, this feels really bad. Went to work seeing this news and I'm on my commute home thinking to myself, the gaming community is losing something here. Same when sessler left. Look how big the market is. We need this type of diversity. The genuine enthusiasm they have is a direct antidote to say Giantbomb. Both are superb at what they do and I think as a community we're the ones who lose when a site like gametrailers goes. Tis a sad day indeed.

Use to like gametrailers but one of the hosts got really annoying and just didn't bother with it. The final straw was the infamous "resident evil 6 rumble". (think the guy was shane) Acted like a complete utter cunt with his man baby view on the game shouting over everyone on that video

I liked the guy with the comb over, and pachter.
I guess I watched some of their game myths videos and got to know angry video game nerd on that site. On the other hand, I haven't gone to gametrailers in years now.
And for E3 streams I just go to giant bomb.

    @Fake_Blood

I'm the same I haven't been on the site for years. Sad to see people lose jobs. How long had they been going for?
