With Force Friday only a few weeks away and lots of new toys being revealed, it can't be long before a new trailer drops. -

Got a feeling the new trailer is going to drop over this bank holiday weeekend. -

Good. He seemed to have got the job based purely on Jurassic World making a billion at the box office. I've no idea how it managed those numbers because the film was fairly average.

"Good, I didn't like a different thing they did."
Apply that to anyone else in any industry and ask yourself how it sounds.
Rian Johnson's Brick and Looper both have the same kind of reviews as Safety not Guaranteed and all his films have made less money, so why is he more deserving? Gareth Edwards got it through Monsters and... Godzilla? JJ got the gig through his blockbuster work. Why single out Trevorrow?
(Also, working favourably with Spielberg probably helped. Who you know, etc. And it's not like he's a massive twat like Trank, who also has no majorly positive film credits to his name.) -

Registered 15 years agoTo be fair Derbs, there's plenty of folk in many industries that make things I don't like, and would be happy to see them leave a project that was important to me.
I don't much like Transformers, so would be happy to see Michael Bay leave Star Wars too.
Edit: not saying that about Ep 9 - I liked Jurassic World a lot.

Registered 17 years agoHe's been on board for a while. He wrote an original draft of the script which they didn't like and they got another writer in to help him. If it's still not up to scratch and poor quality or they are struggling then it's not working.
Don't think they'll bring back J.J. I think they may already have signed the new director and they'll tell everyone who it is shortly.
To close this trilogy and the whole Skywalker saga is a big ask. I'm pretty sure they'll go with Rian again but we'll see.
Edit: I don't think the critical and box office reception to Book of Henry helped either.

Registered 15 years agoI reckon they'll probably keep Johnson to do Ep 9. Apparently he's fitted in very well with the Lucasfilm 'machine'. -

With these big franchises, why does it feel like it's open season for any old celebrity to come along and stamp their mark on it, like an unwanted tomcat taking a piss in the corner? Ed Sheeran in Game of Thrones springs to mind.
Gary Barlow isn't affiliated with Star Wars. He isn't even affiliated with acting. He isn't a professional actor and therefore it isn't in the best interest of the film, or the audience, for him to appear in the film. The cameo will only serve to be a distraction to the story and audience immersion. -

Ed fucking Sheeran took me right out of it. Had nothing to do with anything.

Registered 15 years agoI did find the Daniel Craig cameo in the last one slightly jarring, but it wasn't in the same league as the Ed Sheeran thing which was just the most awful scene. -

Registered 17 years agoI've just finished reading Phasma which goes into her origins, how she got the armour etc. Set before The Force Awakens.
It's not bad and it manages to set as up as a real badass but also explains why she was such a push-over in Awakens. Johnson has promised she'll have a much bigger role in this film and she'll deliver what the fans want to see from her. -

It could also be like Fillion in GotG or Simon Pegg in Ep.7.
