Also, weren't the other films canned because of Solo's poor takings rather than bed-wetting man-children nerd-raging at TLJ?

I think it was both everything started to drop before solo sale of TLJ at home release were half of TFA and shops can't shift the Merc.

The anthology stuff is likely gone now and a new direction to salvage Ep9 suggest they know it went wrong before solo to.

They probably are going on the fatigue theory everyone keeps throwing out there as well. The new trilogy is likely at earliest 2021 as they focus on their netflix bollocks and tv shows. Personally I don't buy fatigue I love having one a year and marvel pull off even more with only just getting a little boring after a decade. Problem was quality not quantity.

TFA isn't alone in not being able to shift tat. The Phantom Menace did a billion and still left firms bankrupt after betting the farm on selling anything with a logo on it.

And it is fatigue. Mainline movies will still do well but people just won't go to see stories they don't give a fuck about. If they had called it Gary: A Star Wars Story and had been a heist caper with a guy called Gary, set in that universe, I would have gone to see it. Having Solo heading it up made me so apathetic towards it, it's unreal.

Iím not sure what tat there was for TLJ that wasnít covered by TFA anyway, the shiny helmet lady burned enough parents and all the main characters were the same anyway

The OT still makes bank. I just watched an unboxing video of some guy who bought 2x $200 imperial guard figures just because he thought they would look cool flanking his $200 emperor figure.

Was the guy in the video visibly sweating and wheezing while unboxing the figures?

No. He was able to pass for human quite comfortably, much to my surprise.

TFA, TLJ, Rogue One were fine films. Solo was alright, but generally much less impressive. And it went from being a middling heist film to having the terrible moral bits and genesis of the resistance tagged on at the end. Way more cringey than the space opera in TLJ.

Also, I still don't get the criticism Daisy Ridley gets. There are SO many films with main characters with worse performances. Including almost (?) every single Star Wars film (prequels / originals). Mark Hamill is just laughably terrible as Luke. But who really cares about actor performances in Star Wars films besides critics...

The funniest thing is, the cloak obscures *everything*. He paid 200 bucks a pop for a plastic helmet and some red felt.

TBF a fair amount of the people who complain only have their arm fold fat as a reference to a vagina.

Literally every criticism your aiming at them is 100% worse in the prequels. Yet you like them. I don't understand.

Anecdotal evidence and all that, but there's approximately a billion porg things around this house (mostly dog toys). I don't think they did too badly on the merchandise front.

News on the live TV show reveals the plot will revolve around something called a mandalorian. Is that some midichlorian shit?

I think fatigue is the wrong word. Shallowness of franchise would be better. Marvel has ben going on for decades, intentionally building a universe that has been a part of milions of lives.

For all the shitty comics and animated series and books that SW has produced... they still only touch a very dedicated minority. I like SW plenty but I've only ever read the Thrawn trilogy and I've never been interested in more than that.

Star Wars is about resistance against an oppressive regime.

Marvel is about... sooo much more. There just isn't enough there. R1 worked because ... it's about resistance against an oppressive regime. Solo was a really good space opera about smugglers and bandits. But noone ever wanted to know where those dice came from. Or the gun. Or why the millenium falcon looks like it does. Or how Solo met Chewwie or that thermal detonator... ffs... the thermal detonator.

The connection to the universe was irrelevant.

So then fatigue set in because we're being fed reheated resistance stories and relevant clap trap. The franchise just isn't broad enough to sustain one film a year with Marvel level of audiences. In my humble opinion.

Watched Solo last night for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. I got a lot more out of it than Rogue One or TLJ

I imagine TLJ shifting less tat is because the audiences genuinely were split on it. It's easy if you like the film to just pretend that everyone who didn't like it is just some kind of screaming manchild on the internet, but most people I know were split on it, with the balance probably being slightly more on the "dislike" side while those who liked it were rarely in the "loved it" camp.

The bit that's isolated to the internet is the frothing OTT rage about it, but the dislike to mild indifference toward the film in a lot of people (and wider than some want to admit for some reason) is probably what's hurt the merch sales.

Plus, the audience has shifted. As above, I suspect most star wars merch is sold to adults. Kids just don't give a fuck about toys anymore.

I only watchted half of TLJ, was too tired to finish it. It wasnít terrible, but Iíve never felt the urge to re-watch it/finish it.

So I suppose I donít completely hate women and social justice, just a bit ambivalent.

The merch problem is made worse by how quickly they can churn it out both the product and the direct marketing now.

Kids don't want a Storm Trooper when New Fad X was just blasted into their eye sockets on the internet.

Never understood the Boba Fett adulation, incompetent buffoon.

Didnít know his name when I was a little kid. Although I was too young to articulate it as such at the time, I viewed him as light comic relief.

Years later, heard SW nerds fapping about this great, badass bounty hunter called Boba Fett. Couldnít believe they were talking about a character I percieved to be the village idiot.

    Cool helmet though!

Can you imagine if something so slapstick and farcical as Fett's death appeared in the new films? People would literally vomit with faux-indignation and rage.
