I try to be myself as much as possible and not adopt a fictive forum persona.. - its also necessary when you're no longer anonymous (albeit voluntarilyl - pimping links to personal sites etc.)... I do moderate myself quite a lot though.. lots of things I'd like to comment on.. but don't since its too easy to misunderstand peoples intentions with only smileys etc to judge comments by... Everybody should be respected, until they do something that makes them undeserving of respect.. Also, if you don't respect others, why should they respect you?.. |

Registered 17 years agoJC2 - The way I look at it is that if you don't care what people think of you you wouldn't keep reiterating it to anyone who'll listen. Like I said if people don't get on with me that's fine but I'm not to keep telling those people that. I'll just get on with doing it.
The way you act, and it's only very, very recently that it's become apparent to me, seems like you want the attention. It's 'cooler' if you go against the grain here and it's not. I'm not too bothered whether Rauper likes me but I'm not going to intentionally piss the guy off because he runs the site and I enjoy coming here and participating. Why put him on ignore? It screams out that you want to be 'cool' and don't want to go with the rules - that's what makes you look like a nob.
Personally I have no problems with anyone here because I won't let myself. BGiE rubs me up the wrong way big time, but I won't put him on ignore because he is a very bright guy, and can bring a lot to a conversation with his viewpoints.
Protesting and making a fuss that you don't care only shows that you do. If you don't, fair enough, just get on with it and join in.

Registered 17 years agoI don't understand where this concept of generalised "respect" comes from. Not jumping on someone for no reason isn't showing respect, it's just the absence of malice. On the other hand, why should anyone just give you respect for no reason?
That aside, the argument that if you can decipher a poorly constructed post then you should just shut up about it is inherently disrespectful to those people you are talking to. Why should anyone have to fucking work at reading your post? Bad spelling and poor grammar affect how people read your comments negatively, potentially even to the extent of obscuring your intent entirely. If you don't care about that then you're the disrespectful dickhead, not the person who points out the fact that you aren't expressing yourself well. -

No, not at all. I suppose what I do may sometimes seem like this but I really only do it for my own amusement. For instance the thread by 'Mr_Sockpuppet_X' which was me was just for fun. I thought it was fun for people to guess who I was and I left clues. I wanted it to be like an investigation or something

That's fair enough, but if people don't realise that instantly they'll form negative opinions.
