I know unignoring was broken for a day or two after the change-over, but I've just tried it and it worked fine. I just clicked on 'change settings', clicked the box next to the username, clicked 'save settings', and I got a picture of BigMugs saying changes had been saved.

To the original poster = the air of pretentiousness that surrounds this forum is one of the things that attracted me to it in the first place. IMO people acting clever is a hell of a lot better than people acting stupid.
  • Deleted user 15 May 2005 18:53:02
But here you get both, everybody wins!

No, there's no acting involved in the stupid.
  • Deleted user 15 May 2005 18:59:39
True, they're the ones who think they're the clever ones. Now they're the really stupid posts.

I'm one of those and damn proud of it! The reason why I like this forum is because there are so many like-minded people here.

Great first post, Slip. And welcome.

    And agreed.
I still don't follow the argument. If you're being attacked, defend yourself. You're having a discussion, not tea with the vicar.

Or is it in reference to the more 'social' threads? Actually, in the case of this one, I know it wasn't.

    So what's he talking about?

He's calling us wankers, mal. Arrogant, pedantic wankers. Which I personally don't have much of a problem with, nor do I have much argument against.
Well yeah, we're pedantic wankers, a lot of us. And we do tend to jump on the, well, tards, rather than try to integrate them (though some of them do seem to have sneaked in be pretending to be non-tards). And some forumites do have fairly strict opinions on the chav issue, and what should be done with them. And we've always had our, ahem, in 'gags'.

But he made a point about there being a popular opinion, and if you don't agree with it you're a tard and that's the end of that. I don't agree with that. I don't see why, if you've got a reasonable position, you can't stand your ground and argue it.

I'm more inclined to think Slip is a disgruntled and wound up regulard who's cheesed off with one or two recent occurances. Which is cool, because I've been pissed off with this forum more than once.
I'm more inclined to think Slip is who he says he is, otherwise he wouldn't have turned up in the latest Europe thread with a half-baked argument, got his arse handed to him on a plate, and gone running off to mummy.

Welcome, by the way, Slip. Just watch out for the Europe, religion and Man U threads, unless you actively want every word you type to be picked apart by the more anal forumites (waves!). You can have just as much fun in the Old Sweeties and Marmite threads. Mmmkay?

This post was brought to you by the words 'Superior' and 'Wanker'

Partially I agree with Slip, but mostly I don't.

It's annoying when, in the middle of a discussion, the other poster start analizing your grammar instead of your argument.

On the other hand, several very common mistakes are also pissing me off to no end. Like the use of an apostrophe in the plural of less usual words. CD's instead of CDs and things like that. I've tried very hard not to point it out in the past weeks, but I can't shut up anymore. Please, guys, stop it!

Edit: I made a typing mistake, lol.

Yeh stop welcoming me I've been here ages hehe :)

I think my post was a combination of seeing a few regulards basically being tools and then reading that Happy Slap thread combine with alcohol and I thought it should be said!

    Intellegent debate. Fine.

Using someones grammar and spelling against them in any debate is just weak minded, although I do understand why it would grate some-what.

And no, I'm not a troll. Just usually can't be arsed to post anything......

According to my copy of the concise OED, which is ten years old or so, but still, it's acceptable, if a bit arcane, to put an apostrophe after an initialled abbreviation when making a plural. Just FYI.

Pfft. The only way you could convince me that the OED is wrong is to top it with a quotation from Fowler's.
