Registered 16 years agoLiterally spent all Sunday playing this. I knew I'd like it, but I never thought it'd be this addictive. Reaching the latter part of Summer, ready to rake in a huge melon crop.
Still haven't built anything, was thinking about a chicken coop though.
Haven't really started any relationship stuff either apart from handing out a flower or two and a chocolate cake to the blonde, oh and buying a beer for the alcho-woman. -

Registered 13 years ago@brigadier I nearly starved my first batch of chickens to death figuring out the mechanics for feeding them yesterday.
I thought this would be a dip in and out for an hour here and there type game. Nope, I spent all day yesterday playing it too. -

Registered 10 years agoJust coming to the end of my second spring and got turned down as a dance partner by everyone in the village during the flower festival.
They will pay!
The options:
A) cull my herd of pigs and smear their blood across the houses of those who spurned my attentions (Cary style)
B) starve my herd of pigs for a few days and lure the villagers into their pen one by one (Snatch style)
C) build chests in front of the doors to all their houses, trapping them all inside (Sims style)
Alternately I might just start paying attention to them rather than spending most of my time mining. -

The developers are fixing this (and a number of other bugs). Temporary solution is to quit the game and fire it up again (save your progress first of course), but it does come back from time to time.

Once I get a hit, I try and tap y to keep the cursor on the fish but the cursor goes all over the place, the taps don't correspond with what I'm doing. -

I'd recommend building a silo first. It allows you to harvest grass for hay (providing you haven't cut it all down already), which is then used for feeding them. Build up a stockpile of hay first, and you'll save lots of cash that you'd otherwise spend on animal food. Also - when harvesting grass, don't clear it completely - leave it patchy, so it'll grow back quicker.

Just so a day 3 newbie knows: is harvesting grass the same as scything those green bushes that give you "fiber"?

It is but rather than scything the green (square) plants that impede you you need to scythe the more random long grass that grows in clumps (you can also walk straight through grass).
As far as I know you want get “hay” unless you have a silo. You don’t receive fibre from grass!

Registered 17 years agoYep - as Zero_g said the grass is the long thin stuff that tends to be in big patches, rather than the single weeds that give fibre. It will all be wasted if you cut it when you don't have a silo. It's collected automatically if you do.
I tend to give this bit of advice out, because I'd managed to clear most of the grass from my farm by the time I realised it was useful. (You can buy grass to plant from the Store if you do cut too much, but you need to give it time to spread out before harvesting it - and as I said - leave bits to regrow.) -

Haley is kind of Stuck up so capturing her in a lifetime of farmwife drudgery seems like poetic justice.

Registered 16 years agoIn the middle of my first Autumn. Absolutely addicted so far. My farm's still on the ramshackle side of things but I'm not worried about presentation just yet.
Upgraded my house once and I'm lending a focus towards the community centre and a bit of going down the mine once in a while. Think I'm at floor 65 or something. -

It's a nack. You will get used to it eventually; it's a bit squirrely but if it wasn't it would be way too easy as you get used to it. I miss maybe one in 20 now as opposed to 3 in 4 when I started

Registered 16 years agoHeh i'm on my first "fall" also.
Got a barn and a coop, also built a nice little crop area with wooden fencing and a cobbledy path leading to the stream. Dont like the scarecrow but he's a necessary evil.
Planted an apple tree a bit willy nilly which is annoying as i am guessing i cant move it, and now i want to make an orchard area.
Only on level 10 in the mines, dont find that part of the game that enthralling tbh -

I've only upgraded a watering can and the mining stick to copper so far.
Was a bit dissapointed in the watering can upgrade - thought it would have a wider watering area but its just a larger capacity.
Mined enough coper in the top 10 levels to get those two upgraded and buy the 3 buildings i've bought.
Whats the eyesore building on your farm? I want that gone. -

What's worrying is that I figured this out for the first upgrade, but not the second. Took me ages to realise I had to hold it down EVEN LONGER. Was disappointed for a few days thinking the second upgrade only increased capacity haha. -

The ‘eyesore’ building will become your best friend eventually.
when renovated through the community centre it’s a greenhouse that can be used to grow any crop (and fruit from fruit trees) regardless of season!

If anyone is particularly enjoying Stardew I can strongly recommend Story of Seasons Trio of Towns which has had its European release on the 3DS. It's slightly slower placed and has more anime style characters than Stardew but its farming mechanics are somewhat deeper and there's more to do. The fishing and mining are way less complex than Stardew though (basically just press a).
