These were just confirmed in the direct with absolutely no details other than;

- 3ds
- Late 2016
- They'll be in Chinese (traditional and simplified) (not solely Chinese in case you get confused) if that's your sort of thing.

Looking forward to it. I skipped the last one so I'm interested to see where they take the game. I enjoyed the online trading and collecting colour variants and foreign Pokemon.

@Graxlar The great thing about pokemon is that its absolutely possible to do that.
I once made a point of only using pokemon weak against every gym and elite four's types. it was great

The last pokemon game I played was Pearl. I can't keep up with all of the updated lists of creatures. What is a "Mega Evolution" when it's at home?

@Graxlar See, things like that put me off buying the new games. What happened to just plain old catch, train, fight, win?

I've just realised that I sound really old now. Damn kids, sitting on my lawn with their mega evolutions and their Phone I XS.

@Folant black/white 2 is a good starter believe it or not

Or you can replay red/blue/yellow as they are on virtual console soon for Ł9

Blue all the way! I was bought that game for my 5th Birthday after it came out. Wasted many many hours on that as a child. I have only ever played Gen 1&2 and whatever gen Pearl is. I missed all of the games between and afterwards.

I have played one game from each generation except the first where I played 2, Red, Yellow, Crystal, Ruby, Diamond, White and X plus Omega Ruby. I wasn't too impressed with Diamond and White but really enjoyed X and OR so hopefully Sun and Moon (or S&M as I'm sure they'll come to be known) will continue along that path. I'm a little disappointed it's for the 3DS though, I was hoping there'd be a new game for the NX to go along with the anniversary. Still, looking forward to hearing more about it and actually seeing some gameplay!

I'm guessing the difference between the two editions is just a couple of exclusive pokemon(that can be traded?) , nothing essential that you have to get both for?

@Folant sorry, I meant x or y. Yeah, just exculsive Pokemon. Exclusive final 'mewtwo' level Pokemon as well so pick the one you like most

Hopefully they add more PC boxes. My living Dex takes up 25. Pokebank also means I only need to capture what ever new mons they introduce. Living dex ftw.

Keep wanting to do a mono type playthrough. Maybe one day.

Yep, no problem. In fact I'd say one of the most annoying things for me is when I play a new one is the mandatory tutorial sections at the start, which I imagine would be great for you

Someone asked about a jump in point. Black 2/White 2 are great, great music remixes in the world tournament and a good mix of pokes.

I'll get moon. More people typically get the game listed first. Makes it easier to trade for version exclusive mons.

Did anyone else buy the remakes? Bought Yellow this morning so currently playing through that.

I find it odd that they didn't show any gameplay. The only real reason I can think of for doing that is because it is coming to the NX and they don't want to talk about that yet. It did have 3DS logos in it's announcement though so it'll definitely be on that, perhaps with upgraded features for the NX.

Pretty much the only thing I want improved upon from X & Y is the noises. Now that all the pokemon are fully 3D animated it's so weird having them still make the random, low quality noises that they've had since the original games. I think the main reason for doing it is having audio files for 700+ pokemon takes up a lot of space so they can't have them in good quality but, presumably, that wouldn't be a problem on the NX so I would like to see them "talking" like they do in the anime. I'd also love to see proper interaction between the battling pokemon or even a completely re-done fighting system that's more like the FFXV battles, but I don't expect either of those for a good few years yet.

I've bought Pokemon Red to play on my 3DS and I've already put over 3 hours into it. Weirdly for me, I've already started grinding to try and get every pokemon in my team up to roughly the same level. I never usually grind in games if I can help it (and if it can't be helped I'm likely to stop playing) but I think a mixture of it being exclusively the first 151 pokemon and knowing I'll be able to take them into Sun/ Moon and beyond is making it more appealing. It's also quite nice and easy to do whilst listening to a podcast or somesuch.

The announcement trailer lists 3DS at the end so it's definitely coming to that. If the NX is equivalent to a PS4 tech wise it would be odd for it to launch on both as well.

Restarted Y tonight going for an all dragon for my first monotype run. Beat the first gym leader, but baby dragons are bad.
