Registered 14 years agoin shock, saw Sound garden in Manchester around superknown times - epic gig and what a voice, best I have every heard.
Good point about the triumvirate of grunge and 2 out of three are now gone.
Temple of the dog - possibly my favourite album ever. I was listening to scream yesterday (don't care I liked it)
And a lovely lovely guy -

Registered 2 years agoSoundgarden were one of the first bands I ever got into and still spin them regularly (had Badmotorfinger on the hifi just last night!).

Registered 10 years agoAs as already been said very very sad news. Not sure about a holy trinity though, Layne Stayley was one of my favourite grunge singers. -

Obviously there were loads of other great bands like Alice in Chains, but those were definitely the big three at time.

It’s pretty sad how many of the key members of the scene are dead from either drugs or suicide. Goes with the territory of making music about being miserable I guess. -

Registered 10 years agoI know. It's miserable but I suppose if they didn't have that side to their personality the music wouldn't be so powerful and touch so many people. -

Superunknown
Black hole sun
Blow up the outside world.
Any number of audioslave tracks.
So many good songs, and what a voice
Looking through the tracks though there are clearly a number about depression.
A great shame. -

Registered 6 years agoI fucking loathe Black Hole Sun, but he did enough good since then to atone for it.

Registered 6 years agoIt really isn't. The song is nonsensical (like they're throwing random words together just because they rhyme), an interminably annoying 5-minute earworm of torture. And the video is like a bunch of kids who just got some video editing software, suddenly learned that they could make people's mouths bigger, and proceeded to abuse the fuck out of it. Which might have been revolutionary in the early 90s, but it sure looks dumb now.
Anyway, like I said, I'm not going to judge the guy's whole career on one misstep. But Black Hole Sun is objectively, scientifically awful.

Registered 11 years agoI'm with Decks. I have no idea who this guy is. I even Youtubed a couple of songs and didn't recognise them.
I can't remember such an outpouring of grief for an individual on the forum though; he obviously made a lot of people very happy. -
