    Ivan Passer, Czech film director.

He may not be familiar, but he directed one of my absolute favourite films, Cutter's Way.

Worth seeing if you never have, it features a barnstorming performance by John Heard (who never got the recognition he deserved) and is like a downbeat remnant of 70s auteur cinema made in the 80s.

    Going to see him soon.
Just about everyone there will be thinking this whenever he starts that sentence.

Neil Peart is a sad one. Liked a bit of Rush back in the day.

On the death rate of Neil's, I hope Neil Young gets missed off the Grim Reaper's list for a good while yet. That'd be a tough one to take.

Nah, not so worried about him. ;-)

He's far too young to snuff it just yet surely! 😃 [\spoiler]

    Neil Peart...

    No.

Rush have been my favourite band since I was 15, which was... a long time ago.
    That's devastating.

    :(

I also spent my youth (and much of my adult life) listening to Rush. One of the first records I ever swapped* in school was 2112. Peart was probably also the first drummer that ever stood out for me, and responsible for the appreciation I have for really good drumming till this day.

    * More like the 80s version of music-sharing.

Roger Scrotum carked it over the weekend. He would be sadly missed, but it's a dog eat dog world out there, so fuck him. I'm sure he would have appreciated the sentiment.

But......he’s dead isn’t he? Unless I’ve missed the point here.

    Christopher Tolkien

As much as his dad invented ‘modern’ fantasy I’d say Christopher’s work in preserving and publishing the background and expanded texts is a hugely underrated contribution to codifying what we understand to be the rules of western high fantasy today
