Registered 14 years agoIt's not just the forums, people IRL got fed up of the blanket griefwank coverage on the BBC:

Presumably your grandfather didn’t get 24hr rolling coverage that reframed him as a saint when he died.
Was he casually racist? yeah but no more so than my own grandfathers if I’m being honest with myself.

Registered 6 years agoWhy the fuck the BBC assumed every SINGLE listener and viewer was incapable of tuning to Radio 4, or to BBC1, I do not know. All other channels should have stuck with whatever was scheduled. Utter fucking dipsticks. Same with ITV, hilarious to see they lost 60% of their audience compared to the week before. -

Registered 6 years agoThis morning I expected all this to have blown over on most radio stations, but no. Apparently we need to be depressed all weekend. I went through Radio 6, Radio X, Magic FM, and Capital Radio, trying to find any music that wasn't maudlin, funereal dirges. Ended up on KISS in the end. Even that was mostly shite. That might just be KISS in general though. -

I read that the BBC coverage was an overreaction due to the complaints they had for the perceived lack of coverage for Princess Margaret's death, I think it's a little of that but more to do with that nationalistic kick that the country has been riding as of Brexit. I mentioned it earlier but it's virtue signalling, a horrible term but very apt. By not showing how much you love Prince Phillip you therefore hate Britian and proof of how the British media is very much defined by the right contrary to what Farage and co would tell you.

Registered 6 years agoI find it hard to get too worked up about the state broadcaster providing blanket coverage of the death of the head of state’s husband.
Am I a flag-shagging boot-licker now?
Maybe all day on every channel was a bit much but these sort of national events are pretty much what its for, no? -

Registered 16 years agoI think if they had BBC1 on it, that would be one thing, but the total blanket coverage feels a bit OTT. Now we all know he's dead, it's not really news any more.
Mind you, I remember the BBC getting complaints because they interupted a repeat of Mrs. Brown's Boys for Mandela's death. -

Registered 14 years agoBBC gets complaints about World Cup coverage and plenty of other things.
I know I joked about it yesterday, mainly because I enjoy 90 minutes of soap on a Friday night.
Having dipped in and out of Radio4 today, what I've heard I've enjoyed.
Also, I've been outside and done other things. Twice. -

Registered 6 years agoI just watched all of the Mock the Week clips where Hugh Dennis takes the piss out of the Royals. That was much, much, MUCH better than wall to wall blanket coverage on every single BBC tv and radio station for 48 hours. -

Registered 15 years ago@BigOrkWaaagh yeah pretty sad that one, she died from anorexia. Her mum had set up a gofund me to pay for a clinic. Apparently she stopped eating as gyms had closed, she would only eat if she could work it off. -
