IronGiant wrote:I wasn't aware there were any issues with the Wii U BC to be honest, it seems flawless to me. As for the IQ it looks better through the Wii U than the Wii for the simple reason that it outputs through HDMI. Certainly if you're going to be running Wii games on an HDTV, the Wii U is a great option. I would recommend getting the Wii U versions of any games when you can though. They'll look much better on your HDTV, and you'll be able to use your Wii U controllers with them while your son uses a Wiimote if he prefers. When playing Wii games you can only use Wii controllers, meaning for example with Mario Kart Wii you'd be stuck with motion controls even if you'd prefer something a bit better. Completely your call, and this is just my opinion, but I'd be tempted to get him into traditional controls sooner rather than later. I think motion controls are pretty much done. He's only three though so I can see arguments both ways. |

Registered 18 years agoThe U is a tempter especially with games like the new MK etc.
Have you experienced any of the issues EG reported here:

Registered 14 years agoCan't say that I have. It seems like the only games with issues are games that didn't originally support progressive scan, AND also had a dreadful PAL conversion, which is surely only a handful of titles. Even then I think you only saw a bit of interlacing.
The RGB Limited/RGB Full stuff sounds like bollocks to me: the original system couldn't have supported RGB Full due to the lack of a HDMI port, so I don't know what they were expecting there. Besides, other than a dedicated Blu-Ray player, most hardware should be set to RGB Limited anyway since otherwise they'll be displaying some content in Limited (e.g. DVDs) and some in Full (e.g. Blu-Rays). Unless you want to be reaching for the brightness setting all the time, this is a nightmare.
In short, no, I wouldn't pay any attention to that article, hardware BC is usually as good as it gets. The same author probably jizzes himself at the thought of X1 BC

^ This, the concept is easy enough for kids to grasp. And if you are playing together, New Super Mario Bros Wii. My brother in law and nephew play it. And if it gets a bit tricky you can pick up the kids character and carry them. It gets frustrating for Adam at times, but the patience pays off when Daddy and Son complete a level and Dexter thinks he has helped.

Registered 18 years agoYou've almost sold me on a WiiU! Now just got to convince the wife lol.. seriously though my lad already loves technology and is a whizz on his ipad, he also loves dancing so Just Dance, Wii Sports he should really enjoy. As long as Wii games like those work properly, and Toy Story/Carnival which i just bought, are all ok we're good to go looking for a decent WiiU deal .gif)
When you use the WiiU is it easy to access the Wii options/menu etc? -

Registered 9 years agoIt is as easy as pressing a tile on the menu, then pointing the wiimote at your TV screen. -

Registered 11 years agoMy 4yo lad plays Mario Kart Wii via Dolhpin on the PC. Uses an xbone pad emulating a wiimote. It's amazing the rate of development. He started off a total spaz, but after a month or so he's coming top 3 on 100cc. He totally loves it.
Remember thinking Mario Kart Wii was a bit gash back when I played it, but it's perfect for him. -

Registered 18 years agoHas anyone spotted any cracking WiiU deals lately? I saw an MK8 bundle at Tesco for £229. -

Registered 14 years agoHaven't spotted any deals since Black Friday, Wii U prices are generally pretty static to be honest. I can tell you that £229 for the Premium MK8 bundle is the bog standard RRP, that's not a special offer.

Registered 16 years agoThat game was released two years ago, the bundle must have sold out long ago but argos never bothered to remove it from their catalogue.
At least that game is coming down in price next month. -

Registered 13 years agoYou need the Wii Remote controllers to play Wii games on a Wii U (in general).
Get Kirby's Return to Dreamland or Kirby's Epic Yarn - great place for young kids to start , should be downloadable from the eshop for 18 quid each -

Registered 18 years agoIs it worth buying the WiiU Remote Plus over the Wii version? The WiiU version is more expensive but is it worth the extra? -
@IronGiant Pretty sure they're identical, bar the branding. -
Get the one for the original Wii with motion plus built in if possible, as using one of the original wiimotes with the motion plus pack is a pain in the arse.
Although depending on the games you want to play you may just be able to skip using motion plus completely and pick up a cheaper OG wiimote
