I bought a FIFA20 Pro when ebay was doing a very nice code a couple of weeks ago, it's definitely quieter than my launch one.

That's pretty insulting. I don't do that and there's no need to be snippy. We can agree to disagree.
    Are you for real??

@JamboWayOh Yes, I don't resort to spammy judgement cuts when I play as Vergil. I'm a lot more skilled than that.

    So jumping judgement cuts then.

Looking to pickup a PS4 Pro.

Does anyone know what the general discount was last Black Friday? Was there much off on Amazon etc?

It was around £20, so not massive discount. Maybe more this year with PS5 now announced. Look out for Cyber Monday as opposed to Black Friday.

Why Monday? Is unsold stuff discounted a bit more then?

Not sure specifically on that, but this link below states the PS4 Pro will be cheaper on Cyber Monday. Again, don't shoot the messenger!

Is the PS4 Pro worth it at twice the price of a standard PS4 slim? Is it really that much better if you have a 4K TV, and planning to use PSVR - and bearing in mind the PS5 will be out next year? Asking for my brother.

Put it this way, I’d rather shove Razer blades in my eyes and set fire to my pubes than go back to a... ‘shudder’ base PS4.

Don't worry, if they're made by Razer then they'll probably shatter on contact with your eyes.

I find PSVR hard enough to recommend right now, but it's even harder to recommend with a base PS4. If you want to play the VR exclusives, make sure it's a Pro because otherwise things will be very blurry. I'd definitely say it makes more of a difference with VR than with a 4K TV.

    edit: also get Polybius.

Which one is quieter? Slim as reduced footprint/power consumption or pro with better spec so less of a chore to run a game?

    Haha too true ;)

I just bought a Pro, glad I did rather than the base PS4. It's a beast of a machine, not as beastly as the 1X, but there have been some awesome PS4 games and there are more to come this gen, and you want to play them at their best. You know it's the right choice.

Nope, it’s much better for psvr and certain games benefit from better frame rates but other than that I’d say no

What crispy means to say is he'd say yes. The man's confused, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Look at all the digital foundry face-offs. They always say the base versions of the game blah blah blah, while the Pro and X versions blah blah blah. You know what I'm talking about ;)

The PS5 being a year is a factor against it if money is the primary concenr but at this point in the lifespan it's also seeing the best use because everything coming out is pushing the base model that much harder.
I would imagine TLoU2 and Ghost of Tsushima will make good use of the extra grunt, and even games like CoD see a pretty significant increase in texture loading (doesn't sound like much but it's very noticeable every game you play).

I have a Pro at home and base at work. I wouldn't want to use the base all the time given the choice.

And if you have all the set-up to maximise it's use already, why not?

Cheers for all the replies. Yeah, I've been pushing him towards a Pro from the start (particularly since he has a 4k TV and wants to try PSVR as well), but he wants to be a bit of cheapskate and get the base version instead. He's in the US and apparently the Pro is really expensive there, and there don't seem to be any decent Black Friday deals (yet).

IMO it's well worth it but depends on how tight money is.

I’m picking up a PS4 today having been mainly Xbox for the past few years. I do have a 4K tv but want to know if I get the slim is it going to be a vast downgrade from the pro ? There is £100 difference in price. I’m sure the pro is better but how much better ? Ideally I’d like to spend less

On the Pro, most games have either a higher framerate, higher resolution or both, hard to quantify and varies from game to game, for me worth it but maybe you should check the games you're interested in to see how much difference it makes.

I'd say it kinda depends what kind of person you are when it comes to internally justifying that extra money.
Are you the kind of person who will let the fact that you KNOW you aren't getting the best experience bother you - with just about every game - even though you'd probably not notice (in most cases) unless they were side by side?

Or would that simply not bother you?

Could you convince yourself it isn't worth the extra 100 or so quid? Every time there's a stutter, or a bit of pop in, or the OS ain't as snappy as you feel it should be, or you feel it takes a bit too long to load a level, or the graphics don't wow you like the internets tells you they should... or or or?

Or would all that eat away at you?

And if you are like me.... I mean - ahahaa - like THAT, bear in mind, it's only going to get worse as we approach the end of this generation; any games released next year will be stretching the base PS4 to its limits.

Why would I put myself through that?

You. Why would you put yourself through tha- oh, forget it.

My brother ended up getting the limited edition Death Stranding PS4 Pro on a Black Friday deal. $300 for the console and game seems great value, and it's a pretty nice looking console too.

Shame about the pad though as the console is one of the better ones.

I quite like the pad as well tbh, looks quite unique and nice in person.
