The problem is that a PC that can output 4k comfortably is running hardware well above anything Sony has access to for a console. A single AMD Fury X chip would barely manage it and at £500 a piece, I can't see them squeezing 2 in a plastic box at a price point that will appeal.
..

In terms of can they do it at that price? I read that they are moving from 28nm to 20nm lithography at AMD – for PS4/X1 chips.
So on the basis that components will be shrunk down to 0.72 times (72%) of the current size, and just having a crude mess around with the original xray of the liverpool chip (seen on the left side), you can see, that without too much effort or redesign reductions elsewhere, Sony should be able to fit in 3 or more times the GPU cores into a new Liverpool at 20nm.
Taking this very crude resizing/copying comparison (on the right side of the image) that has about 3.25 time the no. of GPU cores, 1.8TFLOP * 3.25 = 5.85TFLOP, then if you assume that the reduction in lithography using old cores allows for lower power, and less heat, then they can probably clock the GPU cores higher by quite a bit, so even getting a 30% overclock, you're hitting 7.6 TFLOP of balance graphics performance, and married with an ultra efficient hUMA design, using a lot of GDDR5. Hitting 4K30 with current game fidelity on a system like that, should be pretty easy. -

Registered 15 years agoScrew 20nm, AMD should just start fabbing 10nm and chuck 512 compute cores into the mix.
If Sony add 32GB of GDDR6 and 4TB of fast flash storage, keeping the price below £299, the PS4K is bound to be a winner. -

I can't see this pic quite clearly, but isn't that the game board for Cluedo? eg Colonel Mustard in the Billard Room with the Candlestick?

It used to be posters of Pamela Anderson in Baywatch and Jet from Gladiators on your bedroom walls, now it's softcore porn on profile pictures.
