Is this far worserererer then AvsP?
Yeah potentially. It was way more violent, but just had so many stupid moment, plus a Dawsons Creek style cast of kids running around doing silly things.

Saw it once, erased it from memory.

I'm not disagreeing, but curiously, which cool scenes?
The underwater scene was pretty good. And the big mooky thing getting sucked out of the little hole was certainly memorable.

There was one good thing in the film... that part where Ripley throws the basketball backwards over her shoulder from the other side of the court and it goes in? That actually happened. The director was really upset that he didn't frame the shot to actually show the fact though.
The shot did show the fact - the problem was he had to do an immediate cut because when they filmed it the rest of the cast lost their shit when it went in. So it looks a bit fake, just for the unnatural cut.

I OWNED THE DVD SPECIAL EDITION TOO! ;)

    Surprisingly, yes...
The shitness extends to film quality as well, I remember the sound in particular to be horrible...

I like Resurrection to, it quickly falls apart but the idea was cool and it has some great sequences. The failed experiments and the aliens underwater were two great and memorable scenes.

I think it needed to be more serious in tone and a little darker to work (and of course a whole re-write of that awful ending with the hybrid).
You're kind of saying exactly what it is I can't stand about it. It falls apart after a great start, jovial banter tone is a real misfire and the end is an absolute howler.

Disagree with the underwater sequence though, can't suspend my disbelief for that long haha

And yeah I thought requiem was much worse. It's possibly my most loathed film which doesn't star Liam Neeson.

Aye that was a great practical effect, have you ever seen the make-up tests for that? It was originally going to be how Ripley killed the Xeno in the original Alien.

@Phattso I probably dislike it a bit too much to be fair. Being honest, at the cinema i loved it, i saw it twice and bought it on VHS!!

It's just the recent watch that's caused me a dramatic U-turn.

Mmm I was half tempted to watch Requiem. I won't bother now. Still it's the only film featuring an Alien I haven't watched.

The worst bit is when the hybrid thing says mummy at the end. The second worst bit is when the alien traps the soldiers in the glass cage, smiles and then taps the button. The third worst bit is the rest of the film. The fourth worst bit is Aliens.

They also fucked the Alien sounds too. Changing them to rather generics ROOOOOOOARS! Plus I found it hilarious that when Ripley is torching the (dead) specimens they are making monster sounds, ridiculous.

In fairness to Whedon, he hates the film too. Some original concepts sounded pretty good for both the story (originally set on earth) and the Alien hybrid, Whedons was malformed with pincer like insect jaws that clamped on yer head and liquefied you to eat.

That doesn't happen does it? It's been a while since I've seen it but I would remember something like that...

Yeah it does. Just before we see the flashes of what the hybrid is thinking of. Riding a tandem with Ripley, catching a baseball with Ripley, being read a bedtime story with Ripley, etc.

I remember that the 'newborn' was supposed to be terrifying. The cinema audience were howling with laughter.

I think whatever good the film did was completely undone by that moment. It had all felt suitably nihilistic, from Ripley becoming what she died fighting to the other protoganists that wouldn't have felt out of place in Shameless. After three films that pointed out how utterly screwed we were this was a fourth that had fun with it. It felt icky and sarcastic to me, and I dug that at the time.

It was obvious the film was going to make Ripley ultimately choose between the two sides of her nature but the most important moment was when the film truly jumped the shark. In hindsight Ripley going full xenomorph would have been more interesting, that's probably the little nihilist in me though.

Still, for the first act it was cool with some memorable characters. You;d struggle to say that about 3, AvP or AvPRetard.

Well....they are not supposed to be. The sound designers have just mixed a load in to the soundtrack, but it was pretty obvious when i watched it.

Resurrection is bad. People like to say Prometheus is bad, but if anything resembling Resurrection was released now, they would shit the bed.

I really didn't like alien 3 though. I'd even go as far as saying Resurrection was more more enjoyable.
    3 was just depressing.

    Resurrection was just too French.

As opposed to the light-hearted romps that were Alien and Aliens ;)

    (Just kidding)

The films have been steadily deteriorating after 2. I enjoyed both 3 and 4 for there own merits but the slide is obvious. AvPR was the gutter. Prometheus flattered to deceive with impressive production but you can still smell the piss.

I'm really not expecting anything from this. My love for the series is feeling like a Savile victim.
