I sort of see what you're saying, but Aliens doesn't explain anything about the derelict ship or make the xenomorphs the product of magic black goo. I'd forgotten how much that annoyed me.

@Jmek As the poster above me said, no, what James Cameron didn't annoy me, because here you still had this vicious, human existence threatening organism. Far as you knew, it was just some incredible species from some far away planet that the Space Jockeys encountered as they traversed the galaxy. Now it's all "Magic black goo". Just can't stand it.

A bit like the Mattix sequels, I now almost wish the prequels didn't exist. It have enjoyed the parallel universe, alternate timeline, idea Neil Blomkamp had to be honest, much as I was originally thrilled about Ridley returning to the series.

    Still did like Covenant though.

On the plus side, James Franco burns to death in the first 10 minutes, and doesn't even get to say any lines (except in the little hand-held video his wife had). The movie won a lot of goodwill from me for doing that.

Just saw this myself, bit of a mixed bag really and the plot is all over the place. It was an alright way to spend a few hours and it was better than promethus.

I still read the title as Alien: Coventry though :)
That would be a real nightmare.

    People evolved from Monkeys.

    HOWS THAT FOR DISAPPOINTMENT.

ALIENS is a killer film but it did dilute the creature MASSIVELY. Ash refers to the creature as a perfect organism. In the sequel they are reduced to literal drone status.

Nah, there's just loads of them.
  • Deleted user 22 May 2017 17:48:53
I think even a xenomorph 'drone' from Aliens could easily take out a ship of space truckers despite them being lessened in threat individually.
  • Deleted user 22 May 2017 17:49:48
Except for Ripley of course but not even a hive could take her out in the second.

One facehugger that could managed it by 3 so there's that I guess.

Don't expect Ridley to expand on that or the queen. He's not a big fan of any Alien films bar his own and doesn't really count as canon.

I've not seen Chappie, but tbh I'm not really convinced District 9 was anything other than a fluke. Elysium was awful.

It seems to me that everyone in this Universe involved with space exploration is a fucking moron. As a layman, I would think it a pretty reasonable precaution to do things like take air samples, examine for pathogens etc

Just back from this. Better than feared, worse than hoped. People still doing retarded stuff, over-explained aliens and the ultra-pretentious religious stuff continue to drag things down. Let it go, Ridley. Please.

Burning James Franco aside, I thought this was ok. Nope, it wasn't nearly as good as the originals (not that I was expecting it to be). And I didn't even like it as much as Prometheus, which I've always thought was underrated.

The cast was mostly forgettable, they acted like idiots, and the movie wasn't tense or scary (though I liked the gore effects). And I didn't like how they basically retconned everything that happened in Prometheus.

But it gets a pass because of David. That guy is a great villain, and Fassbender is perfect playing him.

Just saw this. Complete trash. Worse than Prometheus. There was no suspence at all!

This and Prometheus are like what George Lucas did with the prequels but for Alien.

Chappie is much worse than Elysium, not joking. It's an absolute train wreck than somehow managed to rope in Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver.

I kinda like all of the Blomkamp films. I see the flaws, especially in Elysium and Chappie, but something about them just works for me.
