A lot of comments saying things are over complicated, could it be that you're just not familiar with it? It's easy to slap that comment down after spending half an hour with a demo, but really it would take a few hours of sitting down with the game properly to decide if it's needlessly complicated or actually makes the game more interesting. I was overwhelmed at first, but after a while with the demo the stances seemed really natural and when browsing through where you could take the combo system in the skills menu, I was more excited than anything else. Could end up being an amazing system. We shall see I guess, but I'm not ready to declare it over complicated or perfect. Not possible to make those statements after a small demo IMHO |

Registered 13 years agoI've not hit the pre-order button yet on this.
I think the biggest problem with the pacing is the lack of poise, basically getting hit half way through my attacks, which in Soulsborne only happens if the enemy is a poise-boss, meant I couldn't flurry my attacks and keep health. -

Registered 15 years agoProbably because this isn't a Soulsborne title mate.
That being said, there was no true "poise" system in DS3 either.
Still unsure whether to grab this on release. I think I might, just because it's the closest I'm going to get to a true Ninja Gaiden in the vein of 1 and 2, rather than how shit 3 was. -

It's just that most journalists are drawing the comparison, and the influence is too strong to ignore. I guess I'll roll another character in DS3 to get ready for the final DLC instead. Poise did seem broken in DS3 (and DS2 was a bit naff) but at least we had parry! -

Registered 15 years agoFrom what I've played of the Nioh betas, which admittedly is only about 6-7 hours total (honestly couldn't be that bothered to dedicate longer when fuller things were available) it played much, much more in the style of DMC/Ninja Gaiden/etc than any Souls style game. It seemed to reward full on aggression over passive play. -

This pleases me. I've always been a very aggressive player. I love the rush down characters in Streetfighter et al and I still hold Ninja Gaiden Black as the pinacle of the hack and slash genre.

I enjoy Souls but I don't enjoy constantly having to reign myself in. I take it this is going to stay a PS exclusive? I'll be keeping an eye on this, it may be the last game to convince me to get on again. Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 0 are two games I'm currently eyeing jealously. -

I mean, we know it'll be a great game already, but Famitsu has zero credibility nowadays. -

Going to go for the Weebo trilogy of this, Gravity Rush and Yakuza 0 when my Ps4 arrives.
Sounds right up my street. -

After being a bit meh with the beta I'm still compelled to pick this up after pretty much favourable reviews across the board. I have £45 in my psn account as well. God I'm so weak.

Strange... I've easily fallen for it. I'm not looking at it and comparing everything to souls, maybe that's why. It doesn't have the amazing aesthetic lure of souls or even feel much like a giant RPG to sink my teeth into but I'm not looking at what it doesn't have, I'm focusing on what it does well. Combat.
The combat is a HUGE improvement over all souls games. It almost feels like a new Japanese fighting arcade game in a way, and I can't stop myself dropping more 50p pieces into the machine.
After 20 mins you find yourself stance switching mid fight and pulling off crazy combos while having to pay way more attention to both your and your opponents stamina. Then you look up the skill trees and realise how far you can take those combinations and the things you will end you doing 30-40 hours in.
The combat is fabulous. Hats off to Team Ninja.

When I played the demo ages ago, I found the movement slow. Has that been improved? Is it faster, fluid, smooth? I mean, can you proper dodge etc -

I should be all over this. I mean Team Ninja are brilliant and Ninja Gaiden is my favourite Xbox game and souls is just heavenly....Mix the two up and it should be my dream game.

Registered 16 years agoIf you weren't taken with the demos, then why would the reviews convince you otherwise?
You've played it yourself. Surely the opinion you yourself formed is more relevent to you than someone else's. The demos were expansive too and got similarly high praise, so it's not like they weren't representative of the full game.
It's the new shiny isn't it? I've been there

Stop being logical. That never works.
I was doing alright until I read this bit -
"The tough-but-fair, meticulous structuring of Dark Souls has been married to the dungeon crawling acquisition of treasure that compels so many Diablo fans. The way in which Nioh blends these two elements together so successfully, unified with a unique aesthetic and keenly polished gameplay, ensures this production is truly greater than the sum of its parts, far more than a mere copycat of successful predecessors."
