@y2rich No, you need 50% (or more) of the cities of *each* other Civ following your religion, so the player going for a domination victory can shoot himself in the foot if he isn't careful.

God China is such an asshole, they keep sending missionaries into my cities and promise not to do it anymore then do it again! I don't have any open borders with them, how can I stop them? I can't even declare war because of their broken promises, the only option I have is a surprise war :(

Yeah, missionaries are fuckers, and I've seen the AI break the promise repeatedly.

    Possible solutions:

Build apostles with faith if you have your own religion - they can engage in theological combat with missionaries. This does not count as war and can be done at any time.

Declare war and kill his missionaries.

Surround your city with 6 units so that missionaries can't actually reach your city.

Hmm surrounding I might do, they keep coming from the same general area. Even though I have founded my religion I don't think I can build apostles yet, at least on the 'buy with faith' page there are only missionaries.

You need a temple to recruit apostles.

They can also be sacrificed to enhance your religion (twice) to add more bonuses.

Are alliances with npcs any use? They don't come to my aid if I get attacked and there doesn't seem to be a way to ask them to join a war that was started against me.

Apparently they mainly serve the purpose a non-agression pact did in previous Civ games: as long as another civ is allied with you it's impossible for them to attack you it seems.

Diplomacy is the one aspect I've been focusing on least so I can't confirm nor deny that, it's merely info I gleaned online.

The engine feels very clunky in Civ 6. I like playing huge maps in all my Civ games cause once I find a great starting location I really like to get into it. But its disappointing the current huge map is not bigger and wont let me zoom out more like in Civ 4 where the entire globe was visible.
There is a small mod that let's you use a larger-sized map on Civ Fanatics.

There's also a basic AI tweak mod on there. Not tried it yet but initial reports suggest it does lead the AI to upgrade units a bit more and focus more on building up their cities than churning out a ton of ancient era units. Also works with a tech tree tweak mod. Will try them both tonight.

Features I would like in Civ 6:

    - Sentry order for military units
    - Production queue
    - Indication of border expands (location, time)
    - Button to send my trade routes to the same location as before
    - Not having to setup up my counterspies EVERY 3 FUCKING TURNS (I deleted - them all in the end)
    - Better victory indicators (especially culture)
    - A unit XP bar that isn't 12 pixels tall right at the bottom of the screen
    - Diplomacy that feels like diplomacy instead of fighting a poorly implemented anti-warmonger system that solely restricts the player
    - straight hex border lines in strategic view
    - unlocking new military tech (e.g. iron) shouldn't remove the ability to build previous units (e.g. warrior) because if you don't have iron, now you can't build melee military units
    - ability to remove districts
    - not being forced to reselect the end tech/civic every few turns
    - general UI overhaul (city fire button, trade route and spy slection screens, Civilopedia containing more relevant game info, etc)

Still playing as it's very good, but polish this fucker up!

12 pixels tall? Is there a mod to make it so huge?

So I needed to stop playing my attempt at Prince as it kept on crashing halfway through the space race, I say race I’m three bits done and nobody else has started one so I’m calling that a win.

So I restarted in slower speed, large random map and King with a random leader and I got Scythia. It’s pretty much a cheat. Egypt nearly took me out very early, I was surrounded by 5 or six warriors however I got 2 horse archers the very turn there were going to attack.

That lead to a dead Egypt. Then a dead Sumeria and a dead Kongo. If anybody wants an easy win take her on a Pangea, it’s just stupid. I had eight of them and they took down cities in two turns whilst also clearing the field of anything that moved.

I got bored after taking down three civs and I am now the world leader by a massive margin and I’m working out which victory path to take, I reckon that all of them are doable.

    Scythia is a domination beast.

The two light cavalry units per build is ridiculous (applies to Saka horse archers, horseman, cavalry and fucking helicopters) especially when combined with the +100% production to light cavalry for effective 4 to 1 production over your rivals. This can be further exploited by selling the units and buying buildings. Nerf incoming for sure.

I had fun maximising China's ability to use a builder charge to complete 15% of a wonder on the weekend. Pyramids first (for 5 charges per builder - 75% of a wonder). Had 3 wonders up by turn 68 on marathon speed.

My prince game (small) is going well, lucked out by starting surrounded by the americans and japan. Japan attacked me early on but i managed to beat them down, and now they have one poxy town.

I have tanks and nobody else does, for a laugh before i went to bed yesterday i sent two tanks and a cavalry over to paris and took it in about 4 turns. Will be reloading to a save before that though as it was for a laugh only.

Now heading for science victory i am miles ahead of anyone else in science (also randomly leading in culture) and only the americans have the military power to stop me at the minute. Got oxford university and the great library, just churning through tech as we speak.

It's amazing if you start next to civs who don't keep attacking you all the time, the game becomes much easier - went through 50 turns of barely producing a unit, would have lost ages ago if someone had thought to attack me during that time

Just beware that you need huge amounts of production to complete the science victory - there are some key great people that reduce this cost.

The ability even carries over onto armies of horse archers. Not quite sure what they will do in the atomic era but hey ho

    OK, who by?, how?, when?

Would have been nice if you'd told me.
Its bloody infuriating to not know

That's the default isn't it? Always has been. If nobody wins any other way, it stops and you win on points/culture/whatever they use.

I had the same happen to me. Yeah, the feedback isn't amazing.

yeah game ends at 2050AD unless you disable it.

Could also be religious victory which I'd recommend turning off TBH, especially in multiplayer.

I was pretty sure I wasn't anywhere near 2050 though, hence the confusion
Will try and load up the save game and see if I can figure out what it was

The game is really bad at warning you about impending victories, both yours and the AI's.

Anyways, there are a few mods coming out of the Civfanatic community if you're interested - maps, UI tweaks, gameplay changes large and small.

I loaded up the save game

Turns out it was bloody Ghandi spamming Hinduism across the globe for a religious victory. It was only 1655, the game was just starting :(

How do you fight back against that, when all of the great prophets have gone and you can't found your own religion?

I realise now, the other regions weren't spreading their religion, but Ghandi was sending a tidal wave of missionaries, the map was crawling with them.

Declare war, steamroll through religious units with military ones, each missionary dying will reduce their religion in all cities within 8-10 tiles (not sure).

I turn religious victory off, unless I'm aiming for it.

In case you hadn't looked, this game has an old school manual, albeit pdf. 160 or so pages. Not delved into it - ah, memories of lying in bed reading the whopper for the original game, waiting for the world to be created on my A500 and wondering how many days I'd be able to skive off school to play this - but it will hopefully deal with some of the things folks aren't understanding in this thread.
