Turns out it was bloody Ghandi spamming Hinduism across the globe for a religious victory. It was only 1655, the game was just starting :(

How do you fight back against that, when all of the great prophets have gone and you can't found your own religion?

I realise now, the other regions weren't spreading their religion, but Ghandi was sending a tidal wave of missionaries, the map was crawling with them.
Wipe them out is the best option.

Also, do you still take over religions if you capture the founding city? I'd not really paid attention to it so far.

Lastly, Drelnar's AI mod is updated and it's feeling quite solid. Of course it's no silver bullet but the AI definitely feels like they can compete a bit now.

About 400 turns or so in to my first game, built a spaceport and launched the first part, just building the rest of them. Have all the techs researched.

On Prince difficulty but it has been REALLY easy, i have tanks and mech infantry the other civs have at best knights as far as i can tell. The yanks who were the next biggest civ have a LOT of knights and are right on the border of my civ (especially the city with all the production and spaceport) but we have been "friends" for years so it would be a proper backstab if they attacked me. I'm ready though.

Game keeps telling me that Japan and France are almost at a culture victory, and only need culture dominance over one more civ to win, but i check the scores and i cant see how thats possible at all (in fact i'm leading the culture scores too), they have like 18/200 tourists or something.

The game is far too easy, but Prince is an easy difficulty setting anyway so no surprise you're stomping it.

And if you can survive the constant suprise war declarations on King, time to move up again :)

Even on deity, you just build units to survive the initial rush and then you have a good sized military to stomp the whole world with.

Wining is a surprise. As in I loaded up my game planing to settle down for a bit but a few turns in a cinematic plays; apparently I had won a culture victory.

Yeah the actual win condition for culture victory still isn't very clear. Civ 5 had a good window on it that you could use to see how you're doing in cultural dominance with breakdowns for each other civ, but can't find anything like that in this one.

    Bastard forward settling AI!

Had a great start as Aztecs, lots of space and 4 city states to raid for builder slaves. Captured 6 builders early on, force-built my holy site, everything is going fantastic.

Then a Scythian settler with a 10 strong military escort turns up, settles on my border (17 tiles away from their capital for their first settle) and then declares war because I'm on their border.

    Fuckers.

I started 4 games in a row as England where I started on snow (not Tundra, actual bloody snow). Two of them I'd set it to legendary start... Fucking game.

Weirdly I had the same with my England game, trying to make a civ out of snow and trundra isn't easy. Perhaps Firaxis thinks England is rather colder than it is, and it annoys me it's England not Britain.

How did your's turn out in the end?

Yep, the win/lose victory progress indication, is the worst part of the game and a massive backward step from Civ 5

This is quite a useful collection of balance and quality of life mods that I would recommend installing.

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SSTwo-Fp9I60xAeA9yYrEKImi_RCMCRZccaO6ysxpEo/edit

Agree with many of you that there are some glaring errors in UI and other things. However the mod community for Civ has always been excellent and there are already an array of great mods to fix things up and improve the game while we wait for Firaxis to pull their thumbs out their arses.

The game keeps on crashing at end game now, again. It's quite annoying as I really don't who will win it

@basmans_grob Does it also crash your whole system when you try and shut the game down?

I'm approaching the end of a religious game on king and it's really showing some faults in the AI.

I was initially struggling to clear AI inquisition units because of the massive bonus they have on home turf. I then realised that I could park my units immediately outside their borders and then the AI would attack losing the bonus and also the unit. I didn't even need to attempt to convert the Judaism holy city due to the impact of all the religious units dying.

What would be really good imo is a game that incorporates all of what Civ is mixed with the family dynasty and role playing of Crusader Kings.

Sean Bean's voice acting makes the loading screens tolerable, quite enjoying his narration!

I'm trying very hard to love this, but it's really not working for me. The districts thing is a nice touch, but in other regards I'm not finding it much of an improvement over 5. Perhaps I set my expectations too high, expecting a return to those "one more turn" Civ nights that didn't end until the small hours of the morning. I can't put my finger on what's not working, but it almost feels... shallow?

I started another game last night and again I know that I will only play this one. I hope that the DLC improves things however at the moment I wouldn't pay for it again

So I got the expansion last night and while I was 'working from home' I played from 2pm until 1am.

And today I'm wondering home I can get baby Bas to nap properly so I can carry on.
