Can't think of any reason you wouldn't enjoy Civ 5, but do yourself a favour and if you do get it, buy Brave New World with it, Gods and Kings is more optional.

Saying that, might be worth holding on until the 22nd and getting Civ 6 with the rest of us. It looks a treat.

Yep I did. You get nearly everything except the extra civs.

Where's the best place to preorder this from? I see it as 63 for the deluxe at GMG, and 60 at amazon. Anyone seen any better than this?

I can't believe how little hype there is for this only 3 days out from release.

I for one though am very excited. Review in progress from Rock Paper Shotgun looks rather promising:

I AM tempted but also i'm tempted to put it on my Amazon wishlist for my birthday / christmas.

Undoubtedly there will be at least 1 patch before then.

@Tremulant86 It's day one for me, that's a given. That's all I can contribute at the moment, so not much reason to post! :)

I'd be mor excited but 50 through Steam is too much for me (yes I'm aware it's cheaper elsewhere but over 30 for a PC game is a no go for me)

Oh fucking hell, that this weekend? Bollocks, I'm away. That's simply not fair.

I've also got most of Thursday free which is deeply deeply annoying.

My resolve lasted about an hour when I saw the CD Keys cost was starting to creep up. Goddamnit

Seeing as how I've sunk some...

    *Checks Steam Profile*

... oh my god, 851 hours into Civ5 , I think 50 Pounds is quite fair in my case. That's just over a nickle per hour. Complete bargain.

I only seem to get on with the even numbered Civs. So I'll probably pay whatever exorbitant price they ask.

@Skirlasvoud oh I know Price/Hours spent playing, Civ is one of the best bargains you'll ever get but I hate paying console + prices for a PC release. Still done it though, 33 after various vouchers etc.

I've barely played 5 so I should wait until the first expansion is out before buying. I've always preferred the cultural and building aspects over the military stuff and try to avoid conflict where possible. My least favourite victory condition is military.

The AI seemed stubbornly stupid at times in past games (refusing good trade deals or proposing stupid ones) so hopefully that will be better.

I did get a sense from previous entries, IV maybe, that limited wars and skirmishes seemed more viable than always fighting to totally conquer an opponent so hopefully that will be a feature.

I love 5 however it didn't really start till it had some expansion content. Yes I know they said everything from 5 will be in 6 but I just can't shake the feeling of the price being too high.

You know they will have expansions and you know they will add significantly to the game. So just makes me want to wait when the game is 50. As a result bought Endless Legend as it had a bit of a bargain sale over the weekend, yes I know it is different. But it gets glowing reviews.

@THFourteen I would if they weren't one use things/affiliate payments from GMG.

Cd keys and their 5% off via Facebook is a similar price

Played Civ 5 last night which helped to stave off cravings for 6. I know I'll buy 6 but there's so much content in 5 that I might as well get my money's worth. I can (probably) wait until it's at least 33% off.

The changes in 6 sound fascinating and it could well make my preferred 'peaceful' approach more enjoyable. The RPS previews indicate that diplomacy is the weak link in what appears to an otherwise thoughtfully designed game. Good reviews/scores incoming, I reckon.

    @rice_sandwich

When I bought Civ 5, I was hoping for/intending to do diplomacy. Sadly the game fell awfully short in that regard, diplomacy seems to have no purpose other than trade deals. AI behaviour is so erratic that I soon gave up on diplomacy. I hoped to greatly improve relations to a civ by liberating its cities from an oppressor, but they remain guarded because they think I'm a warmonger, so I stopped bothering and just kept the cities for myself. "Diplomatic victory" is just a money victory, as it's all about buying enough city-state votes one turn before the world leader election, which is fucking stupid. Afaik they removed diplomatic victory entirely in 6, which instead introduces religious victory.

They say diplomacy has been improved in 6, don't know yet if that's to an extent that makes it worth bothering with, but honestly it can hardly be any worse than in 5.
