Just over an hour until Chris Evans takes one of the bigger gambles in his entertainment career.
Like them or loathe them, it cannot be denied that the departing trinity took a fairly lifeless consumer show and turned it into a global phenomenon.

Evans divides opinion like, well, like Clarkson did. He's on record as saying that changing the entire presenting team was change enough, and that the format hasn't been messed with too much. Star In A Reasonably Priced Car is now a track / off-road hybrid, but other than that, the suggestion is that it's the show we know and love/hate (delete as applicable).

Moan / shout about it here, or follow the Telegraph's live blog.

Top gear is/was Clarkson, Hammond and May. Won't have the same appeal for me, plus I don't like Chris Evans as it goes.

I'll probably watch the first episode out of curiosity if I can be bothered

Can't lose anything apart from the precious commodity of time if it's shit. They'll have a massive audience being bank holiday. Looking forward to see what they do differently.

Top Gear was a pretty stodgy consumer review program that was all past its sell by date before it was reinvented as a lifestyle/entertainment program.

Now it's a pretty stodgy lifestyle/entertainment program that's well past its sell by date and needs reinvention.

Not a lot to lose really, and some of the talent involved are good so this has much more promise than whatever tired shit is served up for Amazon.

Let's not forget that nothing really changed in series one, it was still straight up consumer information program - there was a segment where they went through a list of second hand cars on the market that week ffs. It took a couple of series to find a format worked with the presenters they had.

Something wrong with the top gear thread?
  • Deleted user 29 May 2016 19:30:41
Here we go again.. No doubt people will be moaning their bag off because it's not the same. It's a fucking car show. It's not Breaking Bad where if they changed the entire cast, then yeah you'd have a point. Get a grip.

Thank god somebody finally started s thread for Top Gear. All these years there's been so much to say about it. All those controversies and nowhere to discuss it. It seems so simple now to start a thread but only user boo had the presence of mind and clarity of vision to do what only seems obvious in hindsight. You sir are a maverick. A pioneer. A goddam hero.

Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten this was on. Hopefully its good and Chris isn't in manic mode and and Eddie Jordan isn't in any mode.

I'll be honest, I don't mind Chris Evans. But he's trying far too hard to emulate Clarkson. 5 minutes in and I'm finding a bit jarring.

Was interested to see how far I could push the limits of passive aggression.

    Turns out pretty far.

Script writers re the same. It just seems like a cut and paste job with the presenters. Can imagine Clarkson spitting Evan's lines.

Nope, not working, just finding this boring, so far.

Only thing I've found funny up till now, Top Gun pilot puking, which really does say a lot about the show's chemistry.

It's no shitter than the old one to be fair. At least this one doesn't have Richard Hammonds dead eyes in it.

This is like the old one but for some reason the audience is full of autistics who have been told they have to clap or they'll get the belt

Chris Evans' voiceover just makes it sound like a bland YouTube presentation.

But, Jesus H Christos why the fuck are they just doing the same style of script with a different cunt saying the words?

Appropriate that it's kind of like watching a car crash.
