Poor choice. Feels like they are going backwards after the last season.

Paddy McGuinness isn't a great choice. I find his whole northern lad bants really tired.

McGuinness is shit but he at least can be occasionally funny. Flintoff is just a personality void.

I look forward to watching Paddy McGuinness creasing up with laughter and mugging to the camera after every tame joke made by the celebrity guests. Not that it matters too much, Top Gear has been a fast-forward-to-Harris-on-a-racetrack and fuck the rest since the refresh

Will be interesting to see how well Flintoff drives, he always seems pretty good at it on Aloto. Not a fan of Paddy though.

Just saw this. Until or unless Flintoff admits he was a troll over flat earth I won't watch him. I won't support the BBC in promoting that level of stupidity.
Not the most stupid thing they’ve promoted, they’ve put Bannon on a debate in Scotland only yesterday
What an absolute shit show. I view the two things as connected actually, promote the silly stupid stuff to pave the climate for the actual insidious stuff, there's crossover in audience. Anyway, wrong thread really sorry.

Still think it's a shame LeBlanc stepped down as I really enjoyed the dynamic at the end. But instead of dialing back on worst part of the show- the faux lad bantz, they double down on it. Nah, I'm out. Flintoff is a massive, massive throbber and I'm not a fan of Paddy either.

Paddy Guinness and Andrew Flintoff???? Bloody hell.....

Top Gear is finally coming to an end soon then. :) TBH I've not got on with any of the new presenters, it's kinda tragic and embarrassing watching them desperately trying to keep it alive.

Anyway....When's season 3 of The Grand Tour coming out? :)

Feels like a step backwards. LADS!!! WAHAY!!1!

The BBC Don’t seem to recognise where the auto industry is headed. We’re rapidly going to see the phasing out of petrol vehicles in the next few years with a huge shift towards EV and automated, not to mention new types of ownership, new public mobility services etc.

The show might do well do reinvent itself more as a Tomorrow’s World type thing for mobility. It’s so much more about the tech side of things now, and certainly the whole petrolhead lad thing is on the way out.

That sounds more like Fifth Gear. There's still a place for car porn sliding around tracks.

The lad bantz was the worst bit of the old top gear, Trying to recreate the old “3 cunts being cunts” schtick is a fools errand. Especially when it would be so much easier to just recreate Harris’ jalopnik etc output with vastly better production values

They need to find a balance, but instead have gone all in on future Clarksons.

The staged pranks and shenanigans just felt so forced. Maybe if they filmed Jeremy punching people and shouting at Asians it would have had a feel of authenticity.

We did the gurning millionaire lad thing with Evans. They appeared to learn something from how much he bombed and tweaked things to end up with the more paletteable mix of last series.
And now we’re back to trousers tucked in boots and tweed Rolex cuntery.
The FFWD-to-Harris-Show it is then. If I didn’t want to sounds like a twat who wondered why he bothered paying his licence fee then I’d wonder why I pay my license fee like a twat.

Problem the BBC have is the banter, mucking about and all that fun stuff is a very large part of why the reboot became so successful (and why Clarkson, May and Hammond are still finding success with the format over on Amazon). Nobody really cares about consumer info with Top Gear, that's why the original Top Gear died out in the 90s. It's also why they haven't scrapped the reboot format and instead just trying to find new "lads" to fill the void left by losing their long standing presenters

.....though personally I considered the original 3 as "mid-life crisis" more than "lads banter"....maybe that's why it's not working since they left :)

No one actually enjoyed the bantz, the wacky scripted challenges, the siarpc shite though, did they? Slow mo shots of a car sliding round a corner and interesting journalism about Saab, the old TVR workshop etc was where the enjoyment was found in the more recent years

Hey, SIARPC is great! I have the TG test track and a Suzuki Liana for Assetto Corsa in VR, always goes down well with visitors :)

I'd say the banter and challenges are what helped give it the staying power it has had for 16 years to be honest.

I dunno, those japes are still finding success on Amazon while BBC are trying to replicate it.

Yeah there’s always going to be a market for that, but the production team were quite vocal about the need to evolve the format as it was getting tired even for them. I’m not sure how successful they actually are over at amazon either, they won’t release any viewing figures for GT

Well Grand Tour missed a bit in series one but it's doing enough to get 3 series at least :) Apparently the latest series was greenlit off the success of the 2nd series. Probably doing enough but will never come close to the size of TG at its peak though I reckon.

I wouldn't say the format itself is getting old though....but then I re-watch TG all the time and like Grand Tour so probably not the best one to ask as I still love it :)

Even the briefest visit to a car forum will quickly show that there’s enough Brexit voting meatheads out there who love clarkson because he tells it how he sees it and will watch GT over those darkies on TG every time

They fucked up a bit with series 1 but I think it improved a lot with series 2. They lost those little digs at Top Gear like "The American" and that silly killing stars bit. It started to feel more like a show than just a trantum at the BBC.
