So what did people think? It loked interesting. Another new direction for the series. Official site says set after Resident Evil 6, so maybe a soft reboot like Resident Evil 4 was. I hope it isn't just a house of jump-scares like a lot of indie horror games tend to be. I'll be more cogerent tomorrow snd come back then, having hooefully tried the demo, if it ever appears,p. Registered 14 years agoThe demo is not on the US store either. I could only find it on the Japanese store, but it requires Plus to download.
Well, I'm relatively uninterested anyway. This looks like Outlast or something, and I hate the current brand of horror indie games like Outlast. All so boring, just walking and hiding all the time in impossibly dark environments while scripted events are played out continuously. -

Registered 14 years agoWell, hopefully they don't change things too much.
People bang on about the horror of the original games, but they tend to forget than even at its most survival, RE still ended up giving you shotguns and grenade launchers.
I'll see for myself when the demo is actually out but I'm not terribly thrilled. -

Registered 9 years agoJust finished the demo. Plays like a perfectly decent post-PT indie horror game, with a splash of Texas Chainsaw. Probably scarier than the last 4 Resi games combined.
Didn't feel like Resident Evil in any way whatsoever, but that's probably a good thing at this point. Resident Teaser. -
Is it a return to survival horror or continuing down the shitty action game path? -

Registered 9 years ago@TolandsRancour zero action in the demo at all. It's literally like playing PT, only with an inventory (and not as scary). Movement is slow and there's not a gun to be seen.
Bear in mind it's like a 15 minute demo though. -
Sounds promising. -
Wasn't 100% on that trailer, the music and look of it just didn't feel very resident evil. But I don't even know what that means anymore really.
I'm very encouraged they're finally trying something new and moving away from the RE4 clones. Almost anything will be better than 6 at this point.
Fingers crossed it's a step in the right direction. -
Just watched the demo, looks okay. I'm happy their moving away from action horror, but this did lack the subtlety and little touches of PT. I mean, in PT, the ghost sounds like she's behind you at all times...because she actually is. You sometimes catch her shadow and the radio even taunts you about it with the "look behind you" moment.
Still, it's got my attention and I look forward to seeing more. -

I loved RE4 but understand the hate for 5 and 6. -
@Load_2.0 They don't stop talking, but here: https://youtu.be/HAdJiH2RkuM
It should be noted, these two ran through the game fast. There's far more to see if you explore.

Registered 15 years agoSo is this just Resident Evil: Cashing in on PT's Cancellation? -
Fucking mannequins!!!!
Think I'd properly shit myself if I played this with a VR headset on. -
If you replay the game and go straight to the hidden room, you can find the fuse that leads up stairs. Seems like multiple play throughs give you different stuff. -

Registered 16 years agoI am a bit concerned that this will end up like an Outlast or Slender clone. However, I did enjoy the teaser and I think it's good that Capcom are trying something new. I'll go into more detail when more people have played it. -
I think it desperately needed to change. After 4, the series just went insane and I think it completely lost its status of being a great horror game. They clearly looked at PT and went with it, but I don't think they had much of a choice after Res6.

Should have gone into the kart racing genre. -

Registered 17 years agoWhile its great they didn't fuck up and do another RE6 type game, I hope there is a bit of combat. I read some comment crying on comments "capcom can't win" They have gone from the "derp derp pew pew" of RE6 to the outlast/PT style of gameplay, thats complete opposite ends of gameplay! In think there is middle ground but it fills the PT void and the other game that got cancelled Alison's road? -

Registered 14 years agoFinally got to play this. Went through twice, just to see if I missed anything the first time. I just hope the full game has something more to do than going around, picking up objects and triggering scary vignettes.
It lacks the subtlety and creepiness of P.T. and there isn't much more there. I wasn't scared at all. Even Outlast did a better job at that.
Gotta give it to Capcom though, it looks decent and runs great. It's probably based on the MT Framework, I saw some signs that reminded me of that engine. -
I think it'd be cool if the demo (if it isn't a standalone teaser) served as a prologue to set up the recurring spookiness and horror of the setting and you take over as the main protagonist after you've got through whatever your guy here goes through.
If they say its set after RE6, so is part of the RE continuity, they can really step totally away from the scientific monsters/virus/plagas stuff even if they are rolling the cartoony stuff right back. As much as people say it wouldn't be RE without puzzles it wouldn't be RE without combat either.
Playing through all the 360 RE titles again at the moment (1, 0, Veronica and 4 done so far), while I don't see how anything like Super Wesker, the Ashfords, or Ultimate Warrior Chris coming back I can imagine this game telling the sort of story you normally only read about from the scattered diary entries in the others.
While the main series story did become too big I don't see them doing a Halloween 3 and presenting an entirely new story under the RE name. Something like 4's reinterpretation of the themes while bringing in a new style of gameplay would be cool.
That might be wishful thinking because, while PT was cool, I'm not big into the youtube first person jumpscare reaction genre. RE was always quite "gamey" and I wouldn't want to lose too much of that.
