You really should give it a go in VR - it's a totally different experience

You don't physically shit yourself (much), but you end up giving your heart a bloody hard workout.

It's worth it for the relief taking the headset off after a particular pant shitting session tbh.

Somehow I'm still alive. I have no idea how. Going through the barn part of Lucas's demented funhouse my health was red, screen covered in blood, barely any ammo. Somehow managed to fend off the molded before a huge fucker came at me. If I hadn't had a couple of grenade launcher shells and a few shotgun shells left it would have been all over. Killed the great stinking shit, found some steroids to boost my health (which also completely healed me), found a couple of coins to get me enough to unlock the MAG, ran back to get that, returned and went through his demented puzzle. Of course I'd seen the video so knew how to get through it alive. Saved just after that. Looks like I'm off to a boat. Constantly on edge, fighting for surival, yet everything is instinctive in this game. I know I won't shut up, but it really is fucking tremendous. The level design (everything seems so real and lived in - the maps are realistic sizes), the combat, the family, the boss fights, the graphics, the sound, the pacing, it's all amazing. This is on par with my first playthrough of RE1.

Yeah it's fantastic, easily the best horror game released in years. I think I blasted through it all in a week which doesn't happen often these days, loved it.

Interested to hear how you find the next part of the game.

Just did the bit where you get the arm and go through the scary little girl creepy section. Phew; that was intense! Fighting the Mother in the greenhouse was especially tense - she scared the piss out of me when she jumped through the window!

I was quite chuffed with myself however. Found a hidden projector shadow puzzle in the courtyard, used the wooden axe and got myself an upgrade from the chest . Because health and ammo are so scarce you really do find yourself trawling through everything to find stuff to keep you alive a little longer. I feel I know this fucking house inside and out now. Not sure what the wooden shotgun is for though, but I've kept it anyway.

Ha ha. Will do! Could really do with increasing my inventory. I found a backpack in the old house but I'm wondering if there are more...

I got to Mina, she's just having a little sit down on the sofa so I think I'll leave it there. The fact that I've already URGGHED several times doesn't really bode well for me getting through this.

Yeah, I've already played through it normally. Which isn't really helping.

I'm actually standing at the bit where she comes up the stairs and I can't bring myself to trigger it.

I did. If you watch carefully you can see the screen shake as I scream.

The bit that got me early is the bit where she appears from under the stairs and grabs your arm I think the last third of the game is sadly not really a patch on the house and surroundings. It devolved into a corridor shooter for me with bits of exposition shoved in to try to tie its ends together. Nothing like as nuanced as the first parts.

Ok maybe it wasn't terrible but it did sour the experience just a bit for me.

I loved this bit. Exploring the ship was the most scared and vulnerable I'd felt for awhile

It was brilliant. No way am I trying madhouse though, I found normal hard enough!

Only gripe would be the last section is a bit linear and tedious. Doesnít help the environment is one of my pet hates in a game (the mines) . Up to that and indeed, after that (how fucking cool to emerge in the guest house and also discover creepy grandma was Evie all along), it was fantastic however. Really liked how the story unfurled and the boat was brilliant.

Just bought the season pass. Some of the dlc looks quite intriguing. Plus it offsets my guilt for loving a game I picked up from CEX...
