Death Stranding, new game from Hideo Kojima for PS4.

Not a huge amount of detail yet, other than Norman Reedus is again on board after the cancelled P.T.

Yup, that's Kojima alright. Weird as fuck, no idea what it's about but I'm on board. I like the quirk he brings to the table.

Seems like this will be the spiritual successor to PT to me. If you remember, Silent Hills was going to be a group of stories split into episodes. In the trailer, we see five people standing in the air with Reedus looking at them, making a grand total of six people. Six episodes perhaps?

No doubt about it, Kojima knows how to make one hell of a trailer. Are they people in the sky though? Kind of just looks like some statue/idols? I'm very interested to see what game Kojima wants to make, freed from the Metal Gear shackles. Not only the story/setting but what type of game it is at all, is interesting.

Nice try Kojima, Horizon Zero Dawn is still the undisputed king of terribly named games on the PS4 though.

Yeah it's definitely linked to PT and the madness that ensued in the other Silent Hills trailer. Even the way that baby moved looked very similar the the thing that's in the sink. I love that something like this is allowed to exist in the industry in 2016.

To be fair, Kojima is a proven developer and storyteller, a history of making weird games that are still accessible and with a huge following of dedicated fans eager to see what his next game will be. I'm glad he's in the position now to make something like this, whatever it might be, but you'll never see a concept like this being given the AAA budget if it was anyone else.

Everything's a euphemism for taking a shit if you get the intonation right.

I've only just gotten around to seeing the trailer.

Watched it three times and still trying to formulate a theory. The best one I can come up with is that it's set in the future and Norman Reedus is some sort of volunteer for a scientific company.

They believe that they can send someone into the afterlife and keep them tethered to the real world using the electronic device seen on his wrist.
Maybe something goes wrong with the device and he becomes stranded there....and he has to find his way back to....life?.

That's it.....im tired and it's the best I can come up with so cut me some slack!

Thought the trailer was incredible tbh. Best thing at E3. It looks batshit crazy and gave me an Evil Within vibe, which I thought was an amazing game.

    Can't wait to see more.

Bit OTT, if you ask me (which you didn't).

So it's open world seemingly and a "quasi-action game" whatever that means. Action elements perhaps but more of an adventure / stealth type deal? Maybe like an open world Last of us / MGS V type hybrid thing with Del Toro / Lovecraftian goodness? There was mention of the title referring to something being stranded in our world and also talk of Kojima wanting players to use ropes (holding on to what is dear / useful) as opposed to sticks (attacking, confrontation etc).

    Hmmm

Why is the main baddie out of Doctor strange in it at the end, playing the same character?

    It's looks alright, I suppose?

Wasn't too thrilled that there was no gameplay shown though, so who know whenever this is coming out. Reminds me why Konami didn't want him anymore. They could have done it in a more sensible and ethical fashion though of course.

I'm definitely down for this game. But some gameplay next time please.

Well, development has barely started as it wasn't that long ago they picked an engine, so there can't possibly be gameplay to show. Unless they work super fast, it must still be pre-alpha at best.

Which raises another question: Why are we getting trailers hyping it up now? It feels way too early.

@SomaticSense Yep. I get Sony wanting to shout about having Kojima on board, but hyping a game this much when it's only just coming out of the concept stage is a bit much. I was hoping that Fallout 4 would start a bit of a shift towards quick releases after announcement, but hey ho. Too much prolonged hype can definitely be a bad thing...

This could be a completely elaborate set up to what is the worlds most CGI heavy version of Mahjong yet at the moment for all the gameplay we've seen.

They chose the engine mid-year, didn't they? Kojima stated that he had the concept, the world, etc, settled when they announced the company last Dec. The first trailer was made in one the two final engines they were deciding on, so we can assume they were testing both a lot beforehand.
That means they'll have had around 5-6 months of work now. You can get a lot done with the right tools. They obviously have most, if not all, of the conceptual stuff outlined.

Enjoying the engine p0rn but also reminded me of the first Uncharted 4 footage from the base PS4. Lots of stuff changes in development, including several different AA solution for U4 before the final engine. so it's pretty hard to say much about what it means if that was captured in real-time off a PS4 Pro. It's very nice in lots of ways but... so was this. https://youtu.be/y1Rx-Bbht5E
