It's obvious from the actors he picked that Kojima likes good films and television. He just doesn't quite seem to grasp what makes them work for some reason. It's probably an ego thing.

Heh, I spent so many hours building roads in this.
    Once I unlocked zip wires
in the late game I went round deconstructing my earliest structures just to free up more bandwidth.
I had a pretty neat network all round the map.[\spoiler]

The writing is fine. Yeah thereís a lack of nuance and itís all on the nose but thatís what you get from Kojima. At this point itís a core part of his games.

I was actually surprised at how much sense it made. After the first couple of hours I thought it was going to be a right fucking mess but I came out of it knowing exactly what happened and that was over the course of about 8 months on and off.

@Nanocrystal strange, there was a patch that came out to make cargo transparent so it doesn't block sight of it.
I'm currently offline so no patch for me unfortunately. Good to know they fixed this though.
Ah. That's a shame. But yeah lots of complaints about that so they added transparency quite quick.

I thought the story was good, it did fall into the trap of a typical good guy vs crazy evil guy with not much more motivation than that, but was enough to keep me going on the road trip. I think having stunning recreations of the actors, who all act well in this really elevates it.

And yeah zip lines are almost game-breakingly good. Post credits I've been building the roads for other players, and setting up as many zip lines as possible to move huge amounts of material around, especially up in the mountains.

Hahaha just nuked a city and got a game over screen having missed SO MANY hints as to what was about to occur. Massive head slap. Well played, Kojima.

Reached Chapter 10, the last hour of the game has been pretty crazy, pure Kojima madness. Checked my emails before turning off and there's a very interesting one that I need to follow up on.

Still on Chapter 10 but made it all the way back east, saved it just outside Lake Knot. Took me a good 2 hours with a couple of minor detours, the last one to Higgs' hideout which was interesting.

@Switch024 Nice one. You're getting there! Not too much gameplay left but eh... a good few hours still to go!!!

I genuinely love that they made a genuine challenge out of simple traversal in this game. The shared world mechanics are also really cool. It's a little like Dark Souls but co-op only. I'm only around chapter 3, but the story seems mostly to be utter nonsense and the game seems to be massively up its own arse, but I'm really enjoying playing it. It definitely feels like one you could grind on for hundreds of hours if you want to max out all settlements and see everything.

@Rusty_M Believe it or not, by the time you've finished everything kind of makes sense. It all seems like gibberish at the start and yes, some bits stay a bit wtf, but overall I finished the game pretty much getting it.

Man it's taking ages to get roads built playing offline. Looking forward to getting internet back next week and getting some help.

Roads and zip wires were a godsend on my recent trek, zip wires especially cut a massive chunk out of the mountains.

I've really enjoyed the story, it's absolutely mental until suddenly it's not and you're nodding your head as it all makes perfect sense. Kind of.

I never actually bothered too much with zip wires. I should have and it's something I may do now to help others out. Certainly through the mountains they'll be a god send.

I spent a long time linking a bunch of them together in the mountains and someone had added a few more which linked up to what I'd already built. Was a great moment blasting through a real tricky area with BB chuckling away.

@Nanocrystal Just spotted my first one on the map, will wait until i break the truck i stole from the MULES before trying it out.

Only bought this in the sale last week and already one of my favourite games in a long time - really engrossing, addictive, atmospheric game.

It's strangely brilliant isn't it? After going in very sceptical I'm absolutely loving it.

@Nanocrystal Yes - and i was exactly the same but a friend who has similar taste to me told me to give it a try and i'm so glad i did. For something that appears on the surface to be so complex, it all feels rather simple and has a 'play it your way' feel with some of the systems and tools.

Yeah and it drip feeds the new gear and systems to you at a perfect pace, so it never feels overwhelming and has a continuous sense of progress.
