There is a large gap between "very well" and "all negative".

Why do you feel the need to endlessly defend a game you've never played?

"Endlessly" :) I've made the same point twice.

I don't care much if anyone else likes it - I'm expecting to bounce off of it pretty hard myself. I bought it because I find it interesting and I figured it was worth a shot.
But the general attitude of "poor reviews" is nonsense. It's scoring well. It's divisive fo sho, but the review aggregates are positive, unless you don't view 80+ as good? Even in the text, which are fairly balanced against pros and cons in terms of features set and gameplay experience, the overall result is still something positive.

The only thing is that Kojima forgot to put trees in the game. What a doofus!!! I expect that'll need a pretty hefty patch!

I don't mind. Reminds me of my holiday in Orkney.

Kojima must really like those "balancing on a log to cross a gap" bits in some games to go and make an entire game based around it.

I don't mind. Reminds me of that time I walked across a log.

Trees don't serve any narrative purpose. Unless there is a treeman.

You can skip the cutscenes. Although it's mildly painful when you're in your Private Room (essentially save room) and you have to watch short unskippable animations to take a shower, fiddle with inventory, drink a Monster, bash one out etc.
A good use for the gyroscope, finally.

I just delivered some “old magazines” to George Baton underground. He seemed grateful. And had big blue balls.

Delivered, apparently. Can't wait to get home from work so that I can balance a large number of nondescript boxes on my back and stumble about walking from A to B. Could always cut out the middle man and do it en route, to be fair.

I do not view review scores as anything. The claim was that the reviews were "very good", whereas like you I see the reviews I've read so far as "overall positive, on balance", with some extreme and divisive cons. Not usually a hallmark of "very good" reviews.

I would also say that the majority of games get reviews that are "overall positive, on balance".

Watched the first hour or so. It's pretty on a Pro and a poverty spec 1080p TV too.

Yeah same. I've tried 3 or 4 times to get back into but I just can't. And up to that point I was loving it. May try to start it from the beginning again at some point.
I just only a month or so ago returned to W3. My save file was two years old! I played for ten more hours and had a good time, thought I was close to the end only to discover I had another entire act to play. Think I'll get to that in 2021.

Anyway.... Can anyone comment on the walking simulation quality? Do you meet any people in the world and then do an awkward hello when you walk past them on a tiny path?

I have no time in my life for another massive game. I have no time for games that don't respect my time but I reeeeeeeeally want to play this.
