I'm two or three hours in and it's pretty fascinating. I've done the square route of fuck all though.

MGS 5 gameplay was truly amazing. Iíd go as far to say maybe the best ever in a 3rd person game. Gameplay = the control of your character, btw.

Mgs 5 is easily the worst big budget game I've ever played.

No idea how I'm getting an immensely enjoyable game out of what it actually is. Fascinating.

I mean, are we talking Metal gear 5 good, of amazing gameplay(at times) but terrible writing and storytelling but with a bit of an imagination..?
I don't think the gameplay could ever be described as amazing. I've swung between bored enough to turn it off, to sort of enjoying myself for brief spells.

The story is utter nonsense and the storytelling is pretty terrible as well, either being 1hr+ cutscenes or dull talking holograms.

Yet I have gone back, but I dont really know why.
What sealed it for me was the two separate buttons for pissing. One to hoik your fly apart and another to release said wazz onto the bemossed floor. Did Final Fantasy let me squat down as Aeris and do that?
    No. No it didnít.

    @wuntyphyve

Jesus titting Christ. I think you are ahead of me... Read the first spoiler, which is a city name, and if you haven't been there, don't read the second.

    Port Knot City

I took my bike up the really rocky mountain and inevitably the BTs showed up.I thought fuck it, I need to get this cargo through. CBA carrying it. Then I got caught by some BTs, had to abandon my bike and then some giant fucking ink whale thing chased me through the rocks. I was scared off my tits! Just legged it and eventually got away, then retrieved my bike and carried on. How did you handle that bit?!

I think I am going to *officially* call this game good now. If you like Kojima games and you've got a bit of patience for interesting ideas to bubble together, get it I reckon. If little niggles and menus and cutscenes bother you, don't even think about it.

@Tomo I just did that bit. I killed it with some grenades. It only took 6 to do the job. Pretty unthreatening in the end.

The first 2 hours are around 85% cutscene. Settle in.

I thought I'd hate that, but it was actually really good. I mean it's pretty much just watching a mad sci if horror.

Yeah the cutscenes have been decent so far.

I couldn't put my finger on anything bad about it at the moment for what it is.

    Bad things for me:
-Menus a tad clunky. Not awful, but not seamless. Takes a bit of getting used to when to hold down X and when Circle can be used.
-Walking/running movement is a bit rubbery, is best I can describe it. Again not particularly bad, but it's not perfect. Crouched stealth is fab though.
-Few too many short cinematics that you keep having to rewatch. Using the elevator, going for a dump, etc.

Everything else is pretty great though.

Erm how the deck do you select which order you want to show on the map?

I think it was the ign review that killed it for me when they said that once the illusion of anything being a threat is gone there isnt much left. The BT's pose no threat if you stop and move slowly, the humans are comically easy and so are the bosses. It's a shame as if there was genuine danger I may have been able to get onboard.

    Some initial impressions:

    1. Voidouts. BTs. BBs. Chiral network. Chirilium. Timefall. Odradek. Mules. Repatriate. Q-Pid. DOOMS. It gets its nonsense speak hooks into you and doesn't let go. The visual design and world-building stuff is genuinely compelling and clearly a notch above most other games.

    2. I'm still yet to *actually* fall over, although my index fingers are getting a workout. The stumbling is truly next-gen.

    3. Norman Reedus is delivering a performance just the right side of Phantom Pain Kiefer Sutherland.

    4. Keen to keep going - at this stage.

Yeah, this is where I got to too, and had to leave for the weekend. I'm stuck in my room with the shower and cans of Monster, and didn't know what to do next.

All I keep reading about is long treks through open land carrying boxes and trying not to fall over.

    Sounds enthralling.

And yet it seems to be absorbing many who play it, but it sounds like work, which is what I play games to avoid.

I did start to realise that the word 'Chiral' is his new 'Nanomachines'.

I think it's the traversal that makes this what it is. So many games try to create a sense of scale that you very quickly realise isn't quite as grand as you first thought. It could turn out the map isn't very big in this game but the way you're encouraged to approach the environments makes it feel fucking massive and every journey mean something.

Well granted I went in with lowered expectations after watching a lot of the coverage of this, but Iím really enjoying it so far, about three hours in.

I have fallen over a couple of times but in my defence I was remote playing on Vita where L2 and R2 are on the rear touch pad.

I haven't fallen over but I have stumbled and hit my cargo off a rock face that was beside me, which gave me 3% damage and fucked away the perfect record I had going.

The metacritic reviews for this are amazing by the way and are a great example of how things are nowadays with pretty much everything.

Biggest pile of shit ever 0

    A life defining experience 10

It's clearly neither of those things but people just cant help being polarised on everything.
