Not exactly. The UK was arguing they wouldn't have to pay it, but sort of hard to deny it when it's right there in the budget. Plus it's actually a good chunk higher than the number we had back then.

Edit - The tweet thread explains it better.

Seed potato war has now started.
EU blocked GB seed potatoes after Brexit, now DEFRA have blocked EU seed potatoes on grounds of market equivalence.

GB export trade is worth 13 million per year and critical for some farmers in Northern England and Scotland.

Yeah, I thought that was known as it covers off existing obligations (pensions, funding progs still running etc). Will check out the thread.

On Sunday I travelled from Switzerland to Edinburgh via Amsterdam and what a shitty experience it is in a post-Brexit world, getting my passport stamped in the EU was depressing but the Edinburgh flight was squeezed into one gate with a load of other UK flights, 5 of which were leaving within 20 minutes of each other, total chaos, cramped with people missing their flights. Felt very much like second class citizens :(

It's an outrage, catching fish in their territorial waters. Not in the EU as well.

You know full well that if your average Express / Daily Mail reader could either eat immigrants, or use them as slaves, then they'd be perfectly content.

Why not both? Wooden legs are cheap and one arm will do.

So Frost meets with loyalist paramilitaries to discuss how to kill the NI Protocol ("riots" and actions to destabilise Northern Ireland during marching season), claims that NI improving their trade position is not something that he wants (due to it being through EU/Ireland), and then New Zealand saying that there is no huge problem to the UK joining the CPTPP so long as the UK respects its existing legal commitments (withdrawal agreement with the EU and NI protocol mentioned explicitly).

Well done lads, well fucking done.

I fucking hate that gammon cunt

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-57911148

The government is expected to warn the EU it is prepared to unilaterally override the Brexit arrangements for Northern Ireland if a simplified agreement cannot be reached.

But Lord Frost says its implementation is unbalanced and unsustainable.

The deal was negotiated by Lord Frost but he is expected to say the Protocol needs to be radically changed.

According to the Financial Times newspaper, the Brexit minister will push for an "honesty box" approach, allowing companies to declare their goods are only destined for sale and use in Northern Ireland to exempt them from checks on the Irish Sea border.

Honesty box... another great idea. I thought the brexit mob hated un-elected law makers, oh wait thats only in the EU

So, this is the deal that Boris and co signed off and were triumphant about, right? The way they are complaining about it, it's as if it was just dropped on top of the UK government without warning...

Article 16 meaning no deal. Yeah that would be a great idea during a pandemic.

The usual nutjobs in our press do seem a little bit reticent on this one, perhaps recognising that it is absolutely 100% clear to everyone on the planet (except their readership) where the fault lies, and so leaving themselves room to turn on Johnson with a decent excuse, if they time is finally deemed right.

Though of course the bad news behind that would be Prime Minister Gove. Or Patel. Or Truss, if the Express gets a say.

In one way Gove would be good. If only to hear the constant noise of Sarah Vile kicking herself.

At this point we've gone beyond satire and parody and are now living in a Truman Show style The Thick of It
