    The was the ping meal and bottle of cheap plonk that stirred me.

    Series picks up in 84 was it ? then moves forward a year, I think. So I was 12/13(same as you then ?) as you say they have nailed it, at least it seems very familiar albeit US and not UK.

    Only watched first episode but it feels great to be back already.

    just finished...i much preferred it to season 2...seemed more cohesive and positively reeks of the 80s still, with an abundance of nods and references

    i still find it impossible to get past the 'fuck, did i really wear shite like those shorts' moment at times...

    I thought it was pretty good, not quite as good as the first two, but once the first two episodes got through their teen angst it gained some decent momentum.

    Not really feeling the first episode. Feels quite different in tone, I don't remember the "HEY REMEMBER THE 80S" stuff being laid on this thick in the previous ones. The constant overbearing soundtrack is getting on my nerves a bit as well.

    @Decks

    i felt like that at the beginning - takes about 2-3 eps to get into its groove...

    Bit younger than you but life didn't rattle along like it does now so it all felt familiar. I remember going to Metropolis mall when it opened (mid 80s) and although much bigger than the set in ST it did look very similar.

    I never had that awful haircut the two crappy boys have. One of them runs around after Bobby Brown (it's his prerogative) being a cunt and the other just tells them the baddie is ten seconds away via his enchanted neck

    First episode is ok.. as the kids are getting older I find the appeal of them is seriously wearing off, especially Mike.

    Hopper has changed somewhat and is now really odd. Will see how the season pans out but I'm not as excited to watch as last season.

    Finished last night and thought it was good enough. Still not a touch on the first season but that could be because the surprise element is gone.

    I have a niggle though. Only read if you have finished season 3. Mqybe I missed this but did we ever find out why the Russians were trying to open the gate in the 1st place? I just can't see what the gain would be.

    Not too sure it is explained. I would think:
    Bio weapon, they could control
    Also "the American" mentioned at the end, in Russia is that Hop, do you think
    ?

    @DUFFMAN5

    general consensus is that it is as that's the way grigori often refers to him - there are other suggested possibilities but i forget what they are

    i don't think it's made explicit but there's the red dawn reference and also the fact that 11 was being used to spy on the russians in s1 so i suppose the inference is that the russians have picked up on hawkin's potential based on previous events and, as duff said, want a piece of the action....

    Thanks for the explanation guys. Shouldn't have binged it so quickly. I thought it had an invasion of the body snatchers vibe too

    Season 3 was good, but also felt like it was missing something the first two seasons had, and they upped the gore and comedy to fill the void. At some points it almost felt like a parody.

    The first episode definitely felt like a parody. It felt like the Wedding Singer at times.

    Yeah, they basically turned Hopper into a fucking imbecile for the lolz.

    Somehow, although the season is four episodes shorter, it seems to have even more filler. Lost of easily please folk here because 80s bobbins.

    The kids cute factor has plummeted out the window and most of them can't act this season either. Mike and Eleven are terrible.

    The homages were even less subtle too. Just blatantly stealing ideas in season three.

    All a bit mediocre.

    Have to agree it's lost a lot of its edge.

    sneaking into the Russian base was Disney channel levels of awful and the the 80s refs have been way too heavy handed. From the terminator spoof guy to new coke. It really is better when it's subtle as opposed to LOOK it's the 80s!!!!

    I've not read your spoiler as I'm only 3 episodes in but I have to say that it has lost its edge, definitely. At least, so far for me.

    Didnít the creators say that series 4 would be all new characters in an all new location facing an all new threat? All new!

    Much as I enjoyed series 3, itís probably enough with that cast etc.

    I really liked this season, it might even be my favourite, but I wish they weren't making another. I want it to go out on (what I consider to be) a high. Also, I'm increasingly uninterested in the Upside Down and its denizens.

    Well I thought it was great. This thread reads like third album syndrome. Oh no it's become popular we must find ways to talk it down and kill it because... well because.

    Yes it was dialled up to 11 but was if funny, fun, emotional & intense? Yes. I bet if it hadn't been dialled up most of you would have called it stagnant, boring and past it. Also season two was bollocks by comparison.
