Registered 6 years agoYeah that was pretty great. Felt a bit less try hard than Super 8 and the soundtrack is perfect. Winona Ryder is distractingly shit though. -

Registered 18 years agoWatched the first, kind of agree with Kal so far. Yet to really grab me. Liking the nostalgia and feel of it though. -
Winona was totally outclassed by the child actors.
And while subversion may now be in the realms of poetic licence I don't see anything wrong with it. There's no other phrase to my mind that encompasses the concept so gracefully and it's widely established.

Really enjoyed this, hope Netflix make more stuff like this -
4 episodes in, enjoying it but there are way too many scenes of
- disbelieving kids
- I'm not crazy! mum
- evil scientists being evil
- Steve. Fucking Steve -
If anything I thought Winona has aged really well. -

Episode 5. These shows always have the sceptical guy, the guy who slows down the plot, tells the good guys they're crazy even though we the viewers have already seen it happen.
Yeah, that guy needs to fuck off. 5 episodes out of 8 already, still with this shit? -

Registered 15 years agoJust finished the 4th episode tonight. Really enjoying it...some really nice pieces of direction. I wasn't expecting it to be so violent, but pleasantly surprised. -

I can't help it, everytime I see Matthew Modine in this, I think it's Leslie Nielsen with "30 years younger" make-up.
Yeah, I know Nielsen is dead.

Registered 20 years agoWas a good 8 hour film basically. Felt more like a King book, which I believe was intended and I enjoyed.
Spoilers
Throughout the show I had the impression that rather than upside down being an alternate dimension it is in fact the future. We see the rift growing in size every time we see it, we see the lost boy become infected possibly by his future self, i.e. he becomes the monster. I thought this right up to the end bathroom scene, where we see him flitter between upside down and right side up. That changed my opinion, and made me think about the 11's death. Perhaps instead like upside down the Demogorgon is a reflection of eleven, perhaps she even created the monster, maybe the entire upside down reality. She was given a flower before entering the deprivation tank. The Demogorgon is plant based. The tank is a cold dark lonely place, like upside down.

Registered 10 years agoI found the end of episode 3 a little emotional, which is not really like me. -
@ChiefGB Yeah, I definitely had a bit a of a moment as well .gif)
Incidentally, I think the first season really benefited from the eight episode length. It managed to eschew the need for 'filler episodes' and nothing felt particularly dragged out, to my mind. Think I'll go through it again when I have a chance.
