Stranger Things Page 4

Just finished it, absolutely phenomenal, and thats in spite of the fact I watched a whole season of television and have no idea what actually happened.

That last episode was a little bit anticlimactic. The rest was fantastic.

It's like how I'd imagune an 80's Spielberg adaptation of a King Novel. So far it hasn't grabbed me.

Up to episode 5 now. Gooood shit.

Steve's little face/big hair combo irritates me.

Watched the first 4 episodes this weekend...wonderful atmosphere and aesthetic, as well as some genuine tension at points. One thing that bugs me: Do Mike's parents ever go in the basement? Mike has has little fort down there, true, but he hasn't had much issue hiding another human being from his folks.
Well i think they would only really go down there to do laundry and from the way it looks they probably just leave it as mikes "den" and don't feel the need to be down there much. I dont think it stretches credulity too much. The father also clearly is pretty unaware of everything around him and i think the mum is probably too focused on her daughter going all "teenage"

If that's the only thing that bugs you then the show's doing pretty fugging good. I've just finished episode 4 it's a wonderfully crafted show, the pacing and the character development for example is amazing.

    P.S Mike's Mom, would.

Gripping stuff. Bit annoyed that because of that I watched it on my phone, and likely missed out on the high quality big screen! Will have to rewatch.

Obvious questions are as others have said are whether there is only one demogorgon, or whether there are others, and whether Will is now going to turn into one. Also, what did the demogorgon eat before the gate was created? Another possibility could be that Eleven actually created the whole thing with her powers, and that it was all sourced in her mind, which is why she could connect to it, had intuition on what was going on, and why she had to destroy herself as well as the demogorgon, instead of just ripping it limb from limb (although I guess the implication is that Eleven is weakened already from previous encounters).

Did they show what happened to the gate? I guess the gate into the other world is still there, and the government people can expand their visits into the upside down now that the demogorgon is no longer a threat.

And to state the obvious: Eleven is called Eleven because she is subject Eleven. So there were 10 before her, and could be some after. The implication is that Eleven is the only special one (or at least that powerful), but we could have been tricked by them just not showing any others.

It was good. Some of the touches brought me right back to watching crappy rental VHS tapes in the 80s.

Re: the ending, I assume that Eleven was, literally, the monster she kept calling herself, and the only way to destroy it was to destroy herself as well.

Totally agree with people saying it's like a Stephen King story, certainly has that down to earth smalltown supernatural horror thing going on.

Right, having now read the Wikipeadia article on the Demogorgon I'd subscribe to the idea that 11 and the monster were entwined - similar to the two heads and personalities of the gorgon. The gorgon references to endless brine sea sort of pairs with the water in the upside down and so does the fact that the mirror world there was toxic and decaying. Whether they were one and hte same or just entwined after initial contact i remain unsure of.

I was thinking Winona had lost it, and was glad I hadn't married her in the 80s, but I did some more pictoral research and she still has it! I don't think I've seen in anything for 20 years.

The items were just resting in her bag. She's completely innocent of everything, ever as far as I'm concerned.

In half way through and thoroughly enjoying it. I can even forgive the poor acting. I even think the kids are getting better.

As always with Netflix I miss being able to discuss the show afterwards

Yeah, I normally hate things with kids as the focus as they can't act and are annoying beyond all belief.

I found this to be the opposite. Great acting from the youngsters and they were actually endearing, fun and realistic (for a supernatural show, at least).

Winona Ryder was in the David Simon HBO series Show Me A Hero last year with Oscar Issac. Definitely worth watching if you missed it.
