Registered 20 years agoLooks quite good from that. Only question is is the final film a patronising mess like his recent clutch of films. -

Registered 16 years agoYeah those reviews are really lashing on the praise.
I've already bought tickets for next Monday in Imax, but none of the trailers ever really got me SUPER HYPED. The numerous glowing reviews have got me a bit more excited for it now.
A lot of of them are mentioning its clever use of time and editing, so I'm interested to see how that pans out. -

Registered 15 years agoYep, sounds ace, no Imax near me but going for new Isense screen, not as big screen but audio pretty ace there. -
Bloody brilliant.
I was not a huge fan of Inception, The Dark Knight Rises or Interstellar. Mostly because they were preachy and overlong.
This is something else. It is so basic. Pure cinema. There is literally nothing else in this film other than the event itself. The evacuation, from 3 overlapping perspectives, drives the whole thing. Its earnest, rousing, scary, moving... blew me away. This is a great film. -

Registered 16 years agoJust came back from the IMAX. This massively exceeded my expectations. I felt completely shellshocked by the time I left the cinema. I don't think I've ever seen a film that's made me feel so tense for so long. The film is also quite unique as well, not sure I've seen anything quite like it.
you NEED to see this at the IMAX
its a solid 9-10/10 -

Saw at the IMAX nearest me. So worth it, intense, stressful, harrowing and humbling. -

Registered 13 years agoIt's pretty fucking weak that this is only showing at IMAX till next Thursday, at least near me. Can't see the film till next weekend so bog standard tiny screen it is for me. -
I saw it at the Curzon in Wimbledon, I expect that people have larger screens in their living rooms. But the seats are comfy and the sound system is great. -

Registered 18 years agoThat was good. An experience indeed. Hardly any dialogue more like a through the eyes video from a few perspectives. Those spitfire shots sure were pretty. -

Registered 9 years agoThat was traumatising in Imax. The lack of dialogue really works for Nolan. Easily his best film.
Harry Styles wasn't shit either. -

Registered 12 years ago@BillMurray That's terrible. I've just checked and my local Cineworld (Sheffield) isn't showing Dunkirk at all after next Thursday, not even a standard 2D showing. I'm in France on holiday till next Saturday, so chances are I'll never see it on the big screen.
That said, I don't have much faith the the ability of cinemas to show films any more. Last time I went to an Odeon they left the lights on until 15 minutes into the film when somebody was forced to alert staff to the issue. Also, last week when I went to Cineworld the screen wasn't set up correctly, meaning that the image was narrower at the top than it was at the bottom, causing a trapesium effect to the image as if it was "pinched" at the top. There was also apparent damage to the top edge of the screen.
However, I do find it refreshing that Cineworld are at least offering 2D IMAX showings now, rather than forcing you to see a 3D IMAX version. I hate the way the unergonomic 3D glasses put a barrier between you and the film. -

Registered 14 years agoIt was different to what I was expecting. A bit disappointed to be honest. It was still good, just not great. I thought showing the 3 concurrent story lines out of chronological order was a bad idea. -

Registered 18 years agoWhat had you expected? I enjoyed it but don't think it's 10/10 as a few reviews are saying. I do think I'll be going to see it again in IMAX though before it disappears. -

Just got back from seeing it in 70mm IMAX. Great film but not the masterpiece some critics are making it out to be, imo.
Still, it's very refreshing to see a war film without a yank in sight. Great use of music too. -

Registered 9 years agoSaw it in 70mm last night at the Edinburgh Filmhouse (no IMAX 70mm in Scotland). Not normally a Nolan fan, like most modern movies his are normally far too long. This was nice and brief. Amazing film but damn that's the most pretentious cinema I've ever been in, and Jesus Christ can people not sit still for 100 minutes, so many getting up to go to the toilet or get a beer or whatever else they were doing.

Registered 14 years ago@FatSternKikwi There was a kid that looked about 8 sitting a few seats along from me. Fair enough taking him to Transformers or something else with fake violence, but who takes a kid to a war movie? -

Not sure what rating this film got but it isn't the most graphic war film, thankfully for any kids going. -

He's such an incredible actor, he was acting so hard he said fook without it even being in the script or anything, coz he was all improvising n stuff. So talented.

Registered 6 years agoI think I'll probably watch it at home once the hype has died down. Haven't cared much for a nolan wankfest in many years, and going to see the latest zeitgeisty thing at the cinema usually underwhelms me. -
