Yucatan Peninsula is a nicer destination in mexico unless you want the nightlife.

It's like an American Benidorm, I don't think you'll find many secret insider tips.

we looked at Hard Rock Hotel.
It's going to cost us a small fortune but it looks amazing!
I've also seen a swimming with whale sharks thing.... Anyone done this.?... I actually don't know how I would be swimming with something so big... Big and dopey I know but still... BIG! -

Registered 16 years agoIf it's going to be expensive surely you'd be better off going somewhere with more stable weather, unless of course you like a bit of a gamble. -

Registered 16 years agoWent 10 years, loved the country and cultural trips. Hated Cancun (was in a hotel on the outrigger).
Lots of Americans out there too, and they way they treated the Mexicans was embarrassing, diabolical, and pretty openly racist.
I'd avoid it like a plague, especially if that cock cheese trump wins. It'll be all the excuse the Americans will need to go full on racist. -
Hard Rock is fine in August (citation - I was there a month or so ago and have been a few times in previous years), it's pretty much opposite Cozumel which gets the worst of the shit weather (first landfall)

Registered 14 years agoI've a mate at work ( I'm in the travel industry) who has stayed in loads of top places around the world. He rates Cancun really highly and is going back in October.
You just need to do a bit of research and choose which part wisely. Like Tulum, Riviera etc. -

Registered 16 years agoTo be fair those areas are really not Cancun - they are about 80km south. Cancun is pretty much a shit hole - you need to be going south , as Trafford says - Mayan Riviera down to Tulum etc. Loads of amazing resorts, beaches etc, and not full of total wankers. -

Registered 13 years agoTbh Cancun was not our first choice and I say Cancun because you say Mexico and you think Cancun. Not really thought about the destination other than someone recommended Mexico as a place to go.
My first choice was Florida but after a bit of pricing up and my Bf looking shell shocked we (he) decided we were never going to be able to afford that! Haha
I'm quite open to suggestions. We have also toyed with the idea of going to somewhere nice in Europe and have our big holiday in 2018!
I want to go to Florida next year but realistically it ain't happening because of other commitmments! -

If you're open to other destinations in Mexico then I'd definitely recommend Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific Coast, we went there last year and absolutely loved it. I've never been to Cancun but it seemed like every other tourist we met in Mexico had been to Cancun previously and much preferred Vallarta as it was less overrun with boozey holidaymakers. -

Registered 14 years agoFlorida would only cost that much if you insist on staying in resort hotels, but whatevs. We went all over Florida, stayed in Miami and the Keys for less than £2k for the both of us, all-in. I'm not a resort hotel whore though. -

Registered 14 years agoYeah, anywhere transatlantic is going to be close to a grand per flight booking now for August next year.
I've been a flight broker for nearly 20 years, my advice would be to put the money to one side and wait for the boxing day sales. See what's about then. The airlines also often push out sale fares in May / June for travel in the summer holidays and you will get indirect flights to the US for about 500 when the carriers are worried about half full planes.
Obviously, if you want quality direct services they will be hard to get on sale further down the line, but I've seen them drop in price many times before.
Drop me a pm sammie if you want my work number

You can get el-cheapo flights to Orlando for £300ish. If you go in September Florida's less of a swampy, humid hellhole too. Rainy, tho.
