I've always thought that. I think it's an attempt to provide an "innovative new feature" that people feel they must have, make previous handsets look old fashioned, and drive up prices.
Which reminds me, what is the point of edge screens? You can't use it to any great extent. It's just weird.
Strictly speaking, reducing the size of screen bezels should be a space saving feature, which is a good thing on a phone as its footprint is reduced, but this is never how they're implemented: Screens seem to be getting bigger regardless, negating any size benefits gained through smaller bezels.
I actually find the bezels a useful thing to cling on to, so you're not constantly touching the screen, especially on a tablet. -

Last year's pixels sold fewer than 10 million and less than the major phones from LG and HTC.
Could give apple a run for its money depending on pricing.
I don't think Apple really care what Google are doing with the pixel phones. -

Do you mean the curved screen or the edge panel? The panels are pointless but the curve is pretty good now and works just like a flat screen but helps make the phone feel narrower.
Is the S8 no longer considered flagship?!

Registered 16 years agoGoing back to what I was saying about apple buying beats and weirdly still packing in bullshit earphones, I was happy to see a pair of akg come with the s8 after Samsung bought Harman.
They aren't audiophile grade by any means but they are a very good pair of earbuds, as good as most would want. Its just a really classy touch and makes it feel the whole thing more premium.
(And, of course, they are wired since the s8 retains the port) -

Yep, best 'free' headphones I've had with any mobile. Mess around with the equaliser and you can create a decent sound.

As for 'edge' technology, I think it's great. I have a clean home page, clock, weather, Google. And a second screen with my most used apps. The edge screen then gives me access to 10 other apps, what's not to love? -
All sorts of issues with the 2 XL apparently, screen burn-in, a blue tint at certain viewing angles and now a high pitched whine on some units. That £799 preorder is looking quite risky now. -

My Panda Pixel 2 XL just arrived, pretending to work while fiddling around with it. Upgrading from a Nexus 5X so it's like a glimpse into the future. To someone else it's probably meh, but I'm pretty blown away. The blue shift is insane, but otherwise I'm happy with it. -

Registered 16 years agoIf I hadn't heard about the blue shift beforehand then I don't think I ever would have noticed it, it looks fine at any angle I actually use it at. -
True, not a deal breaker. Unless you usually hold your phone a foot away at a 45 degree angle. Otherwise I wouldn't even notice.

Registered 18 years agoStill sucks. I tried an iPhone X and it also does it but it wasn't a big deal. Just seems bad as their LCDs were really good at any angle. OLEDs does this to some degree on all brands. -

Registered 18 years agoI'm not allowed by blue shift. The benefits of having absolute blacks when I'm reading at night counters any color abrasions that appears when I hold my phone on unnatural angles.
Either that or is much worse on the pixel than on my Moto Z Play. -
Loving the Pixel 2 XL, the white one is very nice looking. The blue screen stuff is there but I can live with it. -

That's actually made me mildly interested. There's no way that all the leaks we've seen are fake, but why would Google tweet that if it doesn't actually have something surprising to show? Hmmm....

Though actually, if the leaks are wrong then I have more work to do than I was expecting, so on second thoughts I don't want surprises. -

Seems like the android tablet market is dead, altho the new Xiami mi pad 4 plus looks alright for £200
