Registered 7 years agoNice. I already bought Echoes for my dad and a couple friends - but some of the functionality is a bit broke right now outside of the US.
I have the Echo in my bedroom, an Echo Dot in the dining room/kitchen, and an Echo Tap for traveling!!!
Just waiting for them to improve the operation when you have multiple in one house and to add simultaneous music playing (like Sonos and chromecast).

Registered 12 years agoI've been keeping my eye on the Echo for ages, but I'm probably now going to wait until October and see what the deal is with Google Home before making any final decisions either way. I do like the fact that the Echo comes in different sizes, though. -

Registered 7 years agoI use it for weather reports, random questions, converitn metric/imperial in the kitchen, setting timers, but most of all music (voice control for spotify). I want to add home automation though - lights and thermostat.
Watching the google home stuff will be interesting. -
Had it since the US beta. Only thing I really use it for that's not just playing music (which I could do with any old BT speaker) is ask it how old celebrities are when no-one can remember. -

Registered 7 years agoThe main Amazon Echo speaker is pretty good. It's not got huge amount of bass, but it holds up very well for playing in my bedroom where I don't go get loud anyway. The omnidirectional aspect works quite well. I don't think I'd use it as a main source for music in living room or similar, but then we'll it's only a small speaker. -

Registered 18 years agoI'm sorely tempted from a curiosity point of view.
I've got around a hundred albums on Amazon Music, which is a tiny percentage of my iTunes library, but I could see me getting some smart light switches etc.
And £50 off is making my 'Buy' finger twitch.
Anyone know what the sound quality is like? -

Registered 16 years agoOk but not great by all accounts, down the line it will allow voice control of Sonos speakers though which is what I'm interested in. -

Registered 18 years agoHmm... ok. Thanks. Think I'll probably pass then. Don't think I'll be going down the Sonos route. Certainly not in this house. When we move I can see me wanting to network the place. -

Registered 18 years agoMy friend who has an Echo says it shouldn't be bought if you wan't good sounding music. It's the always on voice assistant feature that's the thing.
Then again, I have another friend who says Sonos shouldn't be bought if you want good sounding music.
There's always someone with more refined tastes. As in a larger expendable income. -

Registered 9 years agoIf it played Google Music I'd be all over this.
And it looks like Google are making something similar which will be out next year.

Where'd you get next year from? Most of the speculation I've seen points to a release this year - possibly soon after the announcement of the new Pixel phones (rumoured to be happening on October 4th).

It'll probably be better than Amazon Echo too, so it's worth waiting. I say, having just ordered Echo. I'll probably end up getting both. -
So it's a speaker you can talk to, er, why would anyone want that? -

Registered 7 years agoThe sound quality on the Echo itself is pretty decent. Definitely for the size and price.
If you want better quality - just get the cheaper Echo Dot and attach your own speakers! (either powered, or an amp + passive speakers, which I have done).
I also have an Echo Tap for portability
. It's pretty good too. -

I just caved and pre-ordered it. I heard the speaker is 'ok'. Lacks in the low-ranges, but perfectly fine for the bedroom, office, etc. Probably not good enough for the living room.

Registered 15 years agoJust been delivered, looking forward to having a play later.
I got it more out of intrigue than anything else, I reckon me and the kids will have a laugh with it, I wonder how it copes with different voices though. -

Registered 9 years agoYeah mine should be waiting for me at home later. Downloaded the app to start working on it if it doesn't understand what I'm saying (I have a really neutral type accent though so should be fine), Northern Irish girlfriend should provide it a challenge though! -

Registered 9 years agoSo far seems really cool, except it won't connect to my Spotify account, just goes to a white screen on my phone after logging into both Spotify and my amazon account.
Anything on the net for it? Is there fuck. -

Registered 15 years agoMine did that, went backwards and forwards a few times pressing the x on the white screen and it did it in the end.
Now to make it actually find songs on Spotify without having to say 'from Spotify'. by default it seems to search amazon prime music library which appears to have 6 songs in total. -
Ah cool, glad to hear you got it sorted.
You can change the default player in the settings once you have linked it so it will automatically play Spotify!
Edit: hmm can't see an X on the white screen...
