Oh right yeah. Itís a difficult subject to explain lol.

I want the LG remote to learn the Sony amp IR commands, but canít, and it isnít inbuilt.

Cant teach the Harmony One the LG volume commands as (I think) thatís not an IR command.

Iíve taught the Harmony tonnes of IR commands over the years.

OK then, so why can you not teach your Harmony the volume commands for your amp rather than the TV out of interest? And use your Harmony for the lot?

Because, as is my understanding, the LG remote isnít IR. So I canít teach the posho wireless standard to my old fashioned IR Harmony One, and obv I wonít have the pointer functionality.

Or IS the LG remote IR? Man, weíre going in circles lol.

The LG remote is definitely a combo IR/RF thing. You say that the volume buttons arenít IR so you canít teach the commands to your Harmony (and Iíve no reason to doubt that info). What I donít understand is why you donít just teach it the IR volume commands for your receiver and forget all about the LG volume buttons. Iím assuming you route your sound through your amp?

Oh I see what you mean.

Canít do that, because I canít teach any of the LG remotes functionality whatsoever to my Harmony One remote.

In turn, the LG remote canít communicate with my receiver as the stock 10 Sony presets donít do anything.

Two remotes my only solution. LG to control the tv, Harmony to control amp and volume.

That was the point of the Harmony One. Successfully honed loads down to just that until the LG came along, otherwise itíd be a Peep Show style Megatron.

Heh, only just seen this. At least we're on the same page now!

I'm 100% certain you could control the TV with your Harmony One though. Mine's an Ultimate but it's still just IR (I don't have the hub) and it works perfectly with my B7. I didn't even have to reprogram it from my previous LG telly.

I think the problem might be that you're trying to teach it the commands from the original remote, which sounds like it's pure RF. If you used MyHarmony and just set up the TV through there and synced it up I'm sure it would work.

Alternatively if you definitely want to go the teaching route, you could get a spare LG IR remote from ebay or something?

Sorry if I'm obsessing. Having a Harmony that couldn't control the telly would drive me mental.

I definitely couldn't cope with 4 remotes! Had to make do without the Harmony for about two days after my old one broke, and I just couldn't stand it. Even the wife, who of course previously turned her nose up at the "unnecessary" posh remote, suddenly missed it. She hasn't made a comment about it since :)

The Harmony hub is not capable of sending out RF signals to devices, it uses RF solely to communicate with the remote.

I can control the volume of my LG TV with the Apple TV remote via IR, so it's definitely capable of receiving IR signals.

    @Psiloc

Oh yeah, I never considered just hooking up the Harmony to the Logitech software and using a preset from there. Duh lol

    Iíll give it a spin.

May stick to two remotes though, Iíd miss the pointer from the LG remote and I need the Harmony to use other stuff.

@ozthegweat Oh I see, I thought the hub was for RF devices! Is it just a repeater then?

@yegon Yeah, the pointer is nice (and a lot of people remark on it) but even so the LG remote naturally found it's way into the foot stool after I constantly went for the Harmony instead. Convenience always wins out for me.

@Psiloc Yes, it's used as a repeater for IR devices that don't have line of sight to the Harmony remote. RF signals are a whole different beast apparently, with encoded signals that you'd have to reverse-engineer. I wanted to control the blinds with a Raspberry Pi, but gave up after reading up on what I would have had to do.

Yeah, one to rule them all is nice, but Iíve got a 4TB drive hooked up to it and the pointer is soooo much more efficient navigating around, watching then deleting stuff, as opposed to up down left right.

I've a Harmony 650 and it controls my new 55sj950v fine, was working with my old Sharp soundbar over IR (the new LG works through syncing in the optical out), works with my Tivo and the Xbox One.

Also the LG Magic Remote works with the Tivo, but it had problems with the Sharp soundbar.

I believe the magic remote can control a number of devices (but not as much as the Harmony devices can) but I think you've got to go through some settings to get to the bit where you choose your device type etc.

@blarty It can, but alas the 10 Sony presets in the LG remote do naff all with my (circa 2012) Sony amp.

Yeah you are at the mercy of the range of connections that LG are willing to put in. The harmony should work across the board though.

I'm finally ready to buy the 55" LG B7, but I now can't find it anywhere for £1500 again.
    It's back up to £1800 everywhere! >:(

Hopefully it'll drop again Boxing Day or for January sales if they still exist.

Should imagine itíll drop back again before long. Absolutely love my 65Ē, still occasionally stirrs memories of Tomorrowís World when I was a kid and theyíd show some enormous flat (FLAT!!!) screen tv in a Japanese convention centre with an unfeasibly good (for the time) image on it.

@billythekid Tried Argos? Thatís where I got mine and it didnít really seem like it was on offer.

Seems weird to say it but the B7 is getting quite rare. It wouldnít surprise me if prices start to creep up due to its scarcity before it disappears entirely early next year.

Itís a really good TV by the way. Best of luck.

Mate is after a 50" hdr 4k telly for films, sport and gaming. He's going to pair it with a ps4 Pro.

It can't be more than 50" because of space issues.

Anyone have an new ish 50" telly they can recommend?

Just bought a new samsung TV and while it has an amazing picture I'm currently having hdmi issues with its one connect breakout box for all the ports. Anyone have any issues with one of these?

Sky/ps4/gaming pc are all working exactly as they should. The issue is with the hdmi switcher that I had for the old TV. The TV won't recognise anything through it (media pc and ninty switch) but i tried it again on the old TV and it still works.

The ninty switch works if direct into the Sammy oneconnect box but the media pc that I use for Kodi/streaming content from my storage server isnt recognised regardless

I gave up last night and went to bed.

That does dimly ring a bell from earlier in the thread. Have you updated the firmware?

Tried a software update on the TV but it says none available/up to date.

My next course of action is to empty the full media shelving under the stairs and rebuild/redo the whole setup.

I did manage to get the media pc working briefly with a different hdmi cable but then it stopped again so it's like a handshake issue.

To complicate matters the picture is converted from display port to hdmi from the media pc so there could be some wonkyness there.

Well im off to go enquire about the purchase of a sony 49xe9005 tv for 999.

Sale hinges on the ability for me to pass sound from xb1s and ps4 to my amp without to much hassle with the video going straight into the tv as my onkyo amp is just too old for hdr pass through... :(
