Heh. I have beast as a two handed knight. Lohse as a ranger lady. Red Prince as a pyro mage. And ifan as a cleric/water/necro dude.

Playing on explorer mode tho so much more chilled out game for me. Just pootling around collecting rare loot and chatting with folks.

There is entirely too little min/maxing going on. I am disappointed.

I'm level 17, just got to Arx and everywhere I turn I'm getting the shit kicked out of me. Any tips?

I have to restart this. I was absolutely loving it but got a bit stuck in a fight after 50 hours... then took a break because I'd started this fairly quickly after finishing Div OS 1 and that break became a year. Now I haven't got a clue what's going on /facepalm.

@BigOrkWaaagh I would imagine you are having trouble with the main bridge into Arx. I found the biggest problem there is the different levels. Try and pre-position some or all elements of your party higher up on the battlements and then try the encounter.

Once in there then go to the church as I think that is the expected progression. Arx is very hard, I think it is almost too challenging. On my second playthrough it wasn't too bad because I did absolutely everything in the game before going there so had an extra level or two than the first effort.

I somehow managed to kill everything except the biggest Voidwoken in that fight, losing everyone except Fane (my Mage). As they were pretty far away the battle ended so I got everyone back up to full strength and went to town on him with my full party and that one Voidwoken again proceeded to kick the shit out of me. I have no idea how I'm supposed to kill it with all its support running round too. Maybe now though I can at least run past it, level up again and head back? We'll see.

40 hours in and wandering around Blackpits. Starting to feel like maybe this is more of a slog than it needs to be...

Yeah I agree this is 100% my favourite style of game and I kind of want it done now. But I am either 65 or 100 hours in depending on if you trust the Switch or the game.

Did the bridge encounter. Somehow managed to get the big lad's magic armour down then charmed him twice and pelted him with everything I had. Just now hit level 18 so hopefully things will feel a bit more fair.

Given the amount of dying I do both are probably true.

Save file of 65 hours of forward progress plus 35 hours of repeating sections.

Haha, yes that's definitely it actually.

I think the fight I was stuck on was with a load of dwarves and some sort of statue in the middle?

It's quite jarring how different each level is. You can get completely steamrolled then come back a level later and wipe the floor with the same enemies. So a lot of the time when I was getting twatted about I would go off and try to do or find other quests and come back later.

Problem is Iím finding sometimes itís hours of wandering looking for a quest you can actually do in your level range. You never know if a battle is too hard because you suck or because you are too low a level, and if itís the second thing you are often left with very few ways to find XP

    @THFourteen

TBH that's the best thing about the series though. That struck me when I played the first one. Because there's no respawning nonsense, it's one of the very few RPGs that you can't grind to easily get past any challenge. It's very well designed in that respect. one of the first RPGs I've ever played that made me feel like I had to find quests and gain xp just in order to continue on.

I'm now about level 19 3/4 and I'm wrapping up Arx now. The only quests left are handing my ass to me (Doctor, Lizard portal thing) but I'd like to try and get to 20 before the final encounter so I might try and take on all the transforming commoners (I have been avoiding them until now, but there's very little left to do).

Just hit 20 myself. Only got a couple of main quests left to do, then I think I'll be happy enough to finish and have the game done.

It really is a great game, though it does suffer from many of the same things that other RPGs do (quest bloat, inventory bloat/management, and so on). It's also much stronger in the first couple of acts. The latter ones aren't bad or anything, but they're definitely less imaginative.

    Got back into this yesterday.

Finally convinced an NPC not to go running around if Necrofire whilst I struggle to keep him alive and kill 3 waves of enemies. That fight was easily the low point of the game so far.

Ahhh, the oil rig. While I hated trying to keep the fucker alive, I did love it as an example of how quickly things can escalate in the game.

Heh - I remember that fight. Nearly melted my PS4's graphics card with the amount of fire/other effects on the battlefield.

Definitely one of the games' lower points.

Although that fight was annoying it was certainly memorable, and kind of comical, so I wouldn't count it as a low point as such.

I am fairly sure Larian were trolling the player with that mission. The notion of everything being on fire was a common joke about the first game.

At a certain point I just gave up trying to put the fires out and said "well, looks like I'm just going to be on fire for this whole thing". Which was actually not too bad, the fire wasn't really doing all that much damage.

The worst part was having to teleport the idiot NPC I had to protect far, far away. And even then he kept trying to run back to suicide himself.

Reaperís Coast finally finished at 78 hours on the clock and level 16.3. This next area looks tiny by comparison.

It is. The last two areas are much smaller than the second one.

I got so stuck in this game a while ago fighting a load of dwarves around a statue. I'm about 50 hours in and don't know if I should restart the whole thing with more efficient builds or just keep trying this fight for the hundredth time :|

I have got time off now ... maybe restart isn't such a bad idea.
