@Rodderz pretty sure that was you I saw online. :) Been waiting for day 1 so I could pick it up too.

My first problem; the character models are limited, and are pretty ugly. Considering I'll have to look at that face for potentially hundreds of hours, I'm stuck on the character creation screen.
Prob a bit late now but personally I'd play one of the pre-existing characters rather than creating your own. That way you have more of a background and side quests (you can still get these quests by having the character in your party but you don't get all the dialogue and personally I connect to them more when it's 'my' character doing them rather than another party member). That's all based on the original PC release though, I have no idea if this updated version is different.

    @StarchildHypocrethes

I know what you mean. I had the same issue with the first Divinity game too.

I figure I am just going to have to accept that, most of the time during combat, most of my party will be on fire.

Get the Rain spell on one of your characters (a low-level Hydrosophist ability). You can use it during combat to put out fires. There are various other abilities you can also use to shape the elemental flow of the battlefield. Managing flame/blood/water/ice on the ground is a pretty core part of the battle mechanics once you get into the second half of the game.

Aside from one comical battle fire should be easy to deal with or avoid. As above, rain is a good start.

You can use blood rain from the necromancy school as well, this is somewhat better as it also causes bleeding to foes.

@Mr_Sleep Aye, Blood Rain is good, especially for its interaction with one of the top-level Necromancer spells. :)

Though if I remember, you have to craft the skill book for Blood Rain, by combining two other skill books.

If I jump on with the PS4 version do I need to have played the first game?

I don't think so, but you really should play it at some point. It's fantastic and often cheap. The only connection I imagine is the world lore, and some background characters maybe. It's not a continuation in terms of player characters. I think it be another point in time in the world by some way even.

@ChiefGB Yeah, there's a very large time-gap between the first and second games. There are a few references to the first game in the lore and a couple of little Easter Eggs, but the second game basically stands alone.

@RedPanda87 Cheers for the tip, I can see myself playing this a couple of times so I'll probably do that on my second run, already a few hours in with my ugly-as-sin human ranger.

Haven't played a game like this since Planescape Torment so it's slow going, I have to pick EVERYTHING up.

Pet Pal is my favourite perk in any game, ever.

Figured I would resurrect this thread as I am playing it on the Switch and do not want to swamp the Switch thread.

How you finding it? Teriffic game, got the Switch version as an excuse for another playthrough. Still deciding how to roll my characters this time. Need to use the Elf and Dwarf this time as last time I went Lohse/Fane/Ifan/Red Prince. Not sure who to drop though, maybe RP and Ifan. Ifan's kinda generic and the Red Prince's schtick grated on me a tiny bit.

    Pretty good so far!

Just escaped the prison and wandering around the marshes. Even on explorer mode taking a wrong turn can result in a wipe, Altho the fights are pretty easy on this mode.

The one complaint I have is it can be a little hard to see whatís happening on the switch version.

    Going Ifan/Lohse/Prince at the moment

Playing as the elf lady. Currently recruited the dwarf and lizard, although that is purely because they are the only ones I have found.

Love the narrator and the voice acting as a whole is great.

It is very different to anything I have played before and I am finding it very dense. I like it though.

Played about 5 hours so far. Completed a few quests. 2 of which seem to give me a path to the next area. Not got my collar off yet though.

my last action of this morning was to find an elf in a cage and a man named Griff. with my new wand equipped I called him out and told him i would take them all on. Little did i know, all was about 15 people and my two companions (fresh from me going ape shit and trying to kill some elves) had abandoned me to my fate :(.

What about things like UI? Text visibility? Textures? etc, etc.

I'll be playing it purely portable if I get it. Just need to know if it's solely playable in that format.

I'm playing 100% portable, and it's fine. The textures are what you'd expect from the Switch, more than enough detail but it's never going to look like the other versions.

Text is not too small for me, but ymmv. UI takes some getting used to, but I assume it's the same as the other console versions.

Load times are fine, and I haven't noticed any real performance dips. Even after I o'ned the chest.

    So yeah, it's good!

There is a bit of text on the menu screen that is too small but the text in the game is fine.

Plays ok. Only slow down so far was in the map page.

Had one crash early on but nothing since. Does mean I now save every 10 minutes.

Saving every ten minutes seems smart given that any fucker can kill you.
