Tentative theory - The people Ellie is going for are the Fireflies, retaliating for Joel's lie, now she's old enough to go out on her own.

    :(

Do Naughty Dog tease that much in advance?

I was thinking on losing the PS4 after i got a scorpio, but this may change that.

So frigging excited. It's going to be phenomenal. Mildly disappointed they didn't go the route of a pregnant woman as hinted at in UC4 (Ellies mom, pregnant Ellie, or a new protagonist were some theories) but I'll happily take a grown up angry Ellie (who knows, maybe she gets pregnant?) Will be interesting to see how her relationship with Joel has developed over the years following the end of TLOU.

Oh and not that I'm obsessed with playing as a pregnant woman, but it would be quite original and ND could do a lot with it narratively.

I'd wager on a May 2018 release date.

Was announced as early (engine). From PS4 thread discussion:

3 years before the PS5 releases, right? Roughly speaking, that's the expected timeframe. Maybe they get another year out of the Pro but surely not more than 4 years.

So Uncharted 4 standalone side-story this Summer/next Winter (?) is going to take the floating ND members who aren't permanently assigned to the tLoU team.

But they're still a 2 team studio (even with Uncharted 4 issues) right? So there's been a skeleton team working out tLoU part 2 for the last couple of years. Now they're in full production (if early) and have ~2 years, including a year where they get to pick up those floating members to push through the asset creation workload. Release in the second half of 2018. PS5 comes out end of 2019.

I'm up for the pregnant Ellie. Kind of wish they were making another new IP though.

Either that or she's gone alt-right and is talking about the Jews.

I didn't want this. TLoU is a perfect standalone title but, fuck me, I'm in.

Fuck. Looks like I'm buying a PS4 again down the road. TLoU was one of my games of all time. Simply stunning.

Layden made a point of saying this is super early, and also bearing mind that they've just come off UC4 and are presumably still working on it's DLC, it'll surely be 2 years at least.

Now that it's a thing, I feel the same. If ever a game didn't need a sequel, it's this. If ever a company could pull it off, it's them.

Absolutely. Although Uncharted 3 was diminishing returns and 4 disappointed massively- this hit all the right feels. The first game is a perfect stand alone title without a doubt. But Naughty Dog can do it.

At the end of the trailer where they showed the title of the game, there was a pause after the text "The Last of Us" was shown. I expected a "2", but when the "Part II" appeared, I was surprised, although I don't know exactly why.

Is it deliberate? "Part II" suggests it's a continuation of the previous story, that the previous story is not complete without Part II. Strange, because if there was a game that stood on its own and had a definitive end, it was TLOU.

    Tidbits:
    - you will play as Ellie, not as Joel
    - Neil Druckmann's beard is glistening

I never felt part 1 ended it. It was left up in the air, you could tell Ellie knew Joel wasn't telling the truth and the whole vibe had reversed from the rest of the game.

Agreed. Think "part II" makes it a very clear point. This isn't a sequel, this isn't part of a series of numbered products around a central character. This is a continuation.

TLoU stood alone, until the DLC came out. Then Left Behind was necessary (and contained some of the strongest bits of the entire piece).

So if they say this is 5 (?) odd years later and is the second part of that story, I'll see what they've got.

    - it takes place 3 years after the first game
    - while the first game was about the love between the two main characters, the second one is a story about hate
    - Druckmann says that they know how the ending of the first game makes a lot of people feel about a sequel, and promises to do right by it
    - "Part II" is saying that it's a complementary story and the two together will tell a much larger story

Good stuff, sounds like they know they can't just rely on the central relationship.

    - because of the multiple delays with Uncharted 4 they won't say anything about a release date for a while. Combined with the fact that they thought about delaying the trailer until next year's E3, I'd say this game won't come out until mid-2018
    - soundtrack is again done by Gustavo Santaolalla
    - Neil Druckmann's beard is still glistening

I know this is gonna be the lone nutter response to this news but I'm really unhappy although not at all surprised. I really wish they was doing something new. Don't we get enough sequels.

Well, between this and RDR 2, that's me buying a 4K TV and a PS4 Pro in the future!
  • Deleted user 3 December 2016 23:37:27
Guess I'll be that guy but in all honesty I couldn't really give a shit about this. Tlou was ok but didn't leave an impression on me like it did millions of others. Decent story let down by mediocre game play.

Of course I'll no doubt play this to see where the story goes but I'm hardly creaming my pants over it.

Could always sell it now, and buy again (cheaper) when the game is out?
