I dont think I'd buy a sequel if I couldn't even bring myself to finish the first one.

Finished it yesterday while it is a good game in its own right, I feel a little disappointed in the game as a sequel just doesn't hit the highs of the first game, was relentlessly depressing and 10 hours to long with the story all over the place, having said that its still worth a play through.

Does the partner you're with ever shut her fucking mouth for 2 minutes or am I just being a grumpy sod?

I think the chatting with your companion are some of the better interactions in the game. I needed my headphones on to hear most of it though.
Thirty hours in and still going. I can see how some people can find it drags but it's nice to spend 50 quid on a single player game and get your moneys worth.
Just did a really great section descending an infected
infested building with the young Scar.

Yeah it's a nice meaty sp game for once. I know the bit you mean, looking forward to your final thoughts.

Just made it to Santa Barbara. I've got a bit over 22 hours on the clock now. Still pegging it in the 7 to 8 out of 10 range, more or less how I felt about its predecessor. It's good, but not even close to how it's hyped.

The total lack of player-agency in the storyline is an interesting one. I mean, I guess I don't object to it in principle. If they've got a story to tell and they want to tell it with no branch-points, then go for it. Not every game needs decision points or multiple endings. I never felt like I wanted Doom Eternal to give me a decision about whether to rip some hellspawn's spine out. Feels a bit uncomfortable, though, when characters so routinely do things that the average player is going to find objectionable.

The combination of very high production values and a total lack of player-agency does make it feel like a bit of a book-end on the console generation with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Back in 2014, it was "press X to pay respects". In 2020, it's "press triangle to make bad decision".

@Bichii What was your total playtime, out of interest?

I was being pretty thorough to begin with, but somewhere around the latter stages of Seattle Day 1 as Abby I picked the pace up a bit and focussed a bit more on plot progression. Think it was after I got a trophy for collecting all skill manuals, which made me a big less paranoid about searching every last cupboard.

Not sure exactly but around 33 I think. I lapped up every area, not just for secrets but to really take in the world they created.

@Bichii There are some nice touches, but also a lot of samey stuff. I did an "oooh" the first time I found the intricate model trainset, but felt a bit bemused when I found an identical one not much later. Similarly the table set up for a game of WH40K.

I found a real divide in the amount of detail put into areas for the "slow walky bits" and the "combat" sections. A lot of the combat sections just seem to feature bland, copy-pased rooms with nothing much to find beyond a few crafting resources. Early on, I was spending a lot of time searching them after wiping out all enemies, but not really finding very much. I've largely ditched that now.

I've also just noticed that if there are multiple infected around and you can see where you need to go, you can just run straight for it and half of the time, Dina randomly fires her gun and attacks them all but if you ignore that and leave the area she magically appears with you completely unscathed. Took a bit of the tension away when I realised that.

I'm not sure how much it's actually clicking with me. Some bits are absolutely unbelievable (but they're generally the scripted ones), and some bits I feel like I'm just painting by numbers.

    Early days though.

And done. Playtime just over 24 hours. I'll post non-spoilery thoughts over in the Recently Completed thread, plus a few thoughts on the story/ending in the spoilers thread.

Just done. It will take some time to digest but it's clearly a phenomenal piece of work.

I thought the end credits were about to roll in about 6 different places over the last few hours!

I must add, this game has the best HDR implemention I've ever seen. The difference with it on is astounding.

Started new game plus. Itís just so good, I canít get myself up for playing anything else.

Only played a few hours but knowing the story provides so much extra context to whatís happening, thereís so many small details that I didnít pick up on.

@Switch024 I just finished Hillcrest second time around..god damn I think it's my favourite section of the game. The music in that area is some of the best in the game. Had a new first as well. Hiding under a double bed and shotgun blasting someone's legs off who was walking by.

Iíll have to try that. Iíve been experimenting with shooting enemies in the legs and then charging them with different melee weapons for the finishing blow. The one handed axe is a beauty.

How are you guys measuring your time played? I have no idea how much time I've put in. All I know is that I'm on chapter 18 of 45

Anyone having issues with low volume on this via surround sound? It's absolutely fine through headphones but the volume is almost 50% lower when coming out the speakers. I've tried fucking about with all of the different audio options and it doesn't make a difference.

    Anyone else had this?

Right, cheers for that. At least it means my kit isn't dying on me :)

You'd think they'd test this a bit more?

I tried this on my first go, but just as I was about to shoot the guy dropped down and pulled me out. Really made me jump.

I'm doing a New Game + run too now. I've upped materials on the difficulty and have been making the most of the explosive arrows and the explosive traps. It changes the tone of combat, hunter much more than hunted with that kind of firepower, but I love it. Must have killed six with one arrow in the TV Station.

I posted about this a while back, though it was only the center channel on mine, and itís something to do with the way they master the audio as TLoU Remastered is the same and how it works with my set-up (Denon AVR).
