Took me just over 30 hours and I was glad it was over by the end. Could have taken a good 10 hours off, told the same story and I would have been happy. Might have even played it again at a shorter playtime. Traded it in now.

I'd say its a solid 8/10 for me, too much padding, gets a bit samey after a while, encountered quite a few bugs frequently; environment vanishing in listening mode, enemies vanishing when aiming at them (but can still see you - wtf?), NPCs walking into closed doors, floating art assets. Shame really as the art direction and animation is fantastic, really lets it down.

Non spoiler bugs filmed with my phone here; https://imgur.com/a/i3YI3JG

Like others, thought the first game was loads better, though I liked the 2nd half of the game more. Won't mention why here in fear of spoilers.

Shame about the bugs, it would definitely spoil the experience a little. I donít know how normal it is, Iíve not had any issues and Iím a good 7 hours into my second playthrough.

Personally I donít feel like they could have shaved off 10 hours and told the same story in a satisfying way. I canít really get into why without going into spoilers but for the story theyíre trying to tell, I think itís long because it needs to be.

How stealthy can you be in this? Most of the stuff I've seen make it seem like a wall to wall murder-fest but is it quite sneakable?

@Scimarad It varies. Many encounters can be stealthed past, but it probably takes longer than killing everything. Certain encounters can only be resolved with combat - you cannot do an MGS-style no-fatalities run (nor does being more/less murdery get acknowledged at any point).

I pretty much snuck through the whole game, hardly any combat.

I probably saw 90% of the game in listening mode, which is why I encountered so many vanishing environment bugs.

Honestly, I'd probably be more worried about minimising anti-dog violence!

In games like this and dishonoured I like to freestyle each area. Play it by ear, can't stand trying to pure ghost it. I don't mind trying to be stealthy but if it goes wrong I won't reload it I'll try and adapt and see where the fight goes. You can kill a couple and re gain the stealth upper hand with some moves.

It's at it's best when your plans unravel and it gets frantic. Just did the stalker offices scene, which I think is up there with the best moments in the game, and tried to do it reasonably quietly, but ended up clearing it room by room with a shotgun. SO tense. I'd love them to have a go at proper survival horror.

Also, the shotgun is ludicrously brutal. I didn't realise quite how much in my first run through; I took an NPC's leg off below the knee with it earlier and the aftermath was grim.

@Mark1412 play it on survivor then it is a bit like a survival horror :)

I didn't say I never killed anything, I cleared each area as I went.

Like Bichii I just adapted if I was spotted, it's relatively easy to hide again. No way I'm replaying stuff if I mess up. Just learn my lesson and move on.

I played the first one on survivor and loved it, and it definitely felt more like one, but I'm not sure I've got the inclination for it seven years later. Might up the difficulty and see what it's like for a bit. Also dread to think what the hospital boss fight will be like on survivor.

7/10 for me. Gets far too boring and repetitive in places. Amazing first 10 hours, felt like game of the generation, then the adrenaline starts to wear off.

Not as good as the first one. I think they made a mistake making a sequel. Should have left it as it was with one.
Why? The developers clearly wanted to tell more of the story, and it is their story to tell. Enough people love the game, and them some, to justify it being made. The ridiculous sales figures aren't by accident.

I think 'love' is a strong word in the context of this game. It's good, but it's so stressful and grim.

Just finished it, I would say it's a good game that could have been great. The first half I absolutely loved, then it got really boring and annoying, then redeemed itself, then went on forever, then went on again. And again.

For me some of the story elements just don't work, and I actively found one part hateful and entirely unnecessary.

Horror movies are scary and stressful but people ďloveĒ the thrill of them. Dramas can be powerful but the viewer can ďloveĒ the impact that theyíre left with. This has all of those elements for a lot of players, itís not unfair that they describe it as a loved experience. Being stressful and grim is just a part of it.

Thereís a bit of a language problem around games generally. ďGames should be funĒ is a statement a lot of people make, but itís not something that applies to other entertainment (we donít typically ask if a movie or book is fun, we ask if itís good).

I might have had more fun with other games but this is a wonderful story that has had real emotional highs and lows. Iím just starting Seattle Day 2 second time and it still surprises me. So yes, it is bleak and unpleasant but itís also a Masterpiece in my humble opinion.

Fandom in itself is incredibly toxic, Star Wars Fandom as an example. I just can't comprehend these people but then I imagine they're usually sad, pathetic individuals.

@Zomoniac are these people ever prosecuted? To threaten the life of a voice actor and her parents and her children for her role in a video game?

    Just staggering

It's a level of stupidity that defies belief, even in this age of stupidity. It's wrong and toxic and pathetic to aim that kind of nonsense at a writer, but to do so towards the voice actor just playing the part written for them... The inability to see the actual human as a human, but managing to show genuine care and empathy towards a make-belief character is a way of thinking that I cannot imagine.

Glad to see the support in the comments though. She was outstanding.

It's weird, as movie actors play a variety of roles, but do they get the same level of vitriol when they play evil or bad characters?

I guess as Derbs pointed out, people hold games and other media to different standards.

Also, People. What a load of bastards.

    Star Wars. That is all.

Iím playing through the first one so I can start the new one.
Got to be honest, itís less fun than I had anticipated. Iím not enjoying the fights, quite a lot of restarts until I figure out the combat puzzle they have set up. I get it though, itís a bleak world and resources are so low so you get the feeling youíre barely scraping by. But I love the story and the characters, I just finished winter and he called her baby girl and I was almost in tears.

Because of the story or more tedious gameplay?

The gameplay is very, very similar but improved. Itís more responsive, more punchy.
Iíd be really interested in you playing Part 2 back-to-back without the 7 years of attachment and analysis that most of us have, to see how you feel the story continues. Because itís very much an extension of Part 1.

You need to play Left Behind between them though.

Is that the dlc? How many hours does it take to get through? Iím basically playing for the story right now, it feels like Iíve been through hell with these two characters.

Yeah Left Behind is the dlc. It expands on an event in the main game with some flashback prequel stuff.

Out of all of it I liked that bit of DLC the most.
