Registered 17 years agoAlso started this quite recently and... not really feeling it.
Just got to what feels like the first of the semi open world areas, about four hours in, I've cleared out everything on my map and deep, deep ennui has set in.
Ended up putting the difficulty down a notch (from Moderate to Light) which is something I very rarely do, and was mainly with frustration at the combat. Perhaps I played this and Ghost of Tsushima the wrong way around as my brain isn't dialed in for slower paced more thoughtful encounters.
I'll give it to the ten hour mark and then make a call - hopefully it gets its hooks in by then. -

Registered 15 years agoDon’t beat yourself up about tweaking the various difficulty settings. It’s a different but incredible experience however you set it up so just do whatever’s fun for you. -

Registered 10 years agoI had the reverse, coming from this to ghosts was a real eye opener. Ghosts just never really got its hooks in but the encounters in this were dripping with energy. -

Registered 16 years agoIt does take a while to get into it. That open area is handy for learning the mechanics but the story picks up when it gets more linear. -

I thoroughly enjoyed and am looking forward to the upcoming multiplayer, will probably have a 2nd play through then too. -

Registered 17 years agoI wonder if I'm getting flashbacks to the first game where the combat wasn't so honed and started to outstay its welcome? That's a pretty severe six year hangover to have from a game though. .gif)
I'm loving the character driven parts, even if the close up rendering detail is super jarring when it cuts back to gameplay and it loses all detail and nuance. The new generation can't come quickly enough for that shit. All the detail, all of the time, please..gif)
I also fear that Uncharted 4 might've burned me out on Naughty Dog, in the same way as Fallout 4 burned me out on Bethesda. I know UC4 is a vastly different genre, but there's still a house style that perhaps I'm not as much in love with as I was a decade ago.
Still, only four hours in. That's barely scratching the surface. Onwards! -

Registered 12 years agoTo be fair if it's grating on you now, good luck getting through the rest of it. It goes on forever. I was praying the encounter I was at was the final one of the game for about the last 10 hours of it. -

Registered 18 years agoThe combat is largely similar to the first. It felt quite comforting being back playing such a well implemented stealth system, imo.
Solid is right though... gunna be a long old slog if you don't like it after 4 hours.
Really give it a go though - it's one of the best games ever made.

Registered 17 years agoMy favourite bits so far are playing the guitar. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be my favourite bits. If so, I'm on track for a stonking time.

Registered 4 years agoEveryone (including me half the time) are so old and negative about everything these days. Tlou2, while not as good as the original, is a fucking incredible experience but us old farts moan about everything that doesn't perfectly fit their mood at the time. I'm included in this, when I first player tlou on PS3 I binned it after about 3 hours. When I went back to it on PS4 it became my goat. -

Registered 15 years agoIt’s one of my fav games of all time without a doubt.
I’ve been dipping back in now and again with the slow motion aiming cheat on and damage to melee weapons turned off.
The slow motion in itself it just so much fun, the gore and animations when shooting people are nuts. -

It's comments like yours that probably make me dislike it even more than I actually do. The pretentiousness that surrounds the game is nauseating.
You are pretty negative about everything nowadays though.
You don't exist on a higher plane than anyone who didn't enjoy it as much as you claim to have. It's a computer game, which contains just as much dumb shit and is just as derivative in places as the next summer blockbuster. -

Registered 16 years agoIt is quite a good game. It has some interesting aspects that are executed confidently, and the gameplay mostly works. Some narrative aspects are overdone. In some technical aspects it is peerless.
And I do live on a higher plane than the rest of you. -

I'd better get back to it and finish it off. Was getting to the point where it felt like it would never end so hopefully I can push through and get that payoff. Can't be too far away!

I burnt out hard on it as I played it through twice in a row. Without mentioning areas for anyone yet to finish it drags hard for a few chapters before you get to the final act.
My brother's play games slow over the course of weeks and they both loved it. I probably just played it too much over a short period so it felt like it went on for ever. Still one of the best games of the generation but it didn't stick with me after playing like tlou did.
