Finally completed this, with home schooling and the kids staying up later I don’t get much gaming time!

Have to agree on the length, would have benefited if a few hours were shaved off, but overall a stunning game and technical achievement. Next up is Ghost of Tsushima.

GoT was probably the same kind of length for me and I went for the plat. Would be a much better suited game to play in short sessions imo

Thought this was boring as hell, and gave up after like 8 hours. Just the exact same game from what I played, with a much much shitter story. After Uncharted 4 and this Naughty Dog need to do something original.

I've watched the cut scenes. Would not have been worth crawling around dark buildings for 30 hours. Maybe the gameplay changed for the better during the game though.

So being an Xbox chap I really want to play TLOU2 as it looks cracking and it was always my intention to play the first game beforehand so have been biding my time until funds permit and the wife is sweet about us having yet another source of gaming in the house! Now I did buy a PS3 about 6 years ago or something but hardly played it so retired it to the loft and I just found out (yes always a bit late to the party) that the first game is available to play on the PS3.

So the question is, should I play the first game on the PS3 (as I could do that fairly quickly/cheaply) or do I wait until I have a PS4? Graphics wise it looks pretty respectable in the PS3.

I played it and loved it on the ps3 first, it plays and looks absolutely fine, obviously not up to the ps4 version, which comes with LB of course, but I would go for it.

Yeah, definitely just go for it. It was absolutely fine on PS3.

DLC is quite good though so maybe worth grabbing that too if you enjoy it the main game.

I dropped it on PS3. The input lag was horrific and made the combat outright unplayable for me. Gave it another go on PS4 and it was like a completely different game.

@freddymercurystwin For me, the strength of the game was in the story/writing/characters, so not playing the version with the best graphics shouldn't matter too much.
Also, it's kind of a marmite franchise, so it doesn't make sense to spend a load of money to give it a go if you can play it for cheap.

DEFINITELY don't play it on PS3. For the love of God wait until you can play the PS4 version. You can flick between modes on the PS4 and the PS3 version is horrendous after seeing it on PS4. Plus the input lag and the ds3 being the worst pad ever made.

I'm sure it'll be fine on the PS3 but yeah, the controller will probably want to make you chew your own thumbs off.

@wuntyate Well I do recall not liking the controller much and that could have been one of the reasons I retired it to the loft, I was hoping to use something like this to be able to use my Xbox pad.

@freddymercurystwin check out Brook Gaming - they make really good controller converters for most consoles you can think of

@smemma thanks, unfortunately Brooks don't seem to do one specifically for PS3 console to Xbox One controller, or not anymore anyway, I did get the one I linked to which worked for one of my Xbox pads but not the other one which is a little odd. Anyway it seems to work ok once connected, I fired up the only PS3 game I had lying around, Killzone 2, good god the controls are shocking, probably another reason I banished the PS3 to the loft, fingers crossed TLOU will control OK.

After polishing off Doom Eternal I decided that this has been lying in it's wrapping long enough so I dusted it off with the intention of just taking a little peek before bed.

Bloody hell. It's already grabbed me by my emotion sack and hauled me right inside it's beautiful face. Not sure I'll be able to pace myself playing this, how fucking impressive is this game.

I wasn't going to but I think I'll have to now. Arrived at Seattle before I put it off and it looks almost fucking real at points. Not to mention the facial expressions and all that shit. I'm invested already.

It’s stunning, but also longer than I expected.. they could have shaved a few hours off but still an epic game.

I think it’s the most emotional game and best game along with Death Stranding I’ve ever played, felt drained when it was over and in some ways I was glad when I finished it. It is just gaming perfection.

    @Globalmeltdown
    Morning
Wow, high praise and good to hear about DS, I have that ready to play...at some point in the future. Did you think part 2 was more impactful than the first game ? for me the original effected me more, probably due to having an at the time 6 year old daughter...throughout the game I was protecting and saving her. I did not expect the opening of TLoU at all.

For me, personally, only the intro of the first game had any impact. And it was a huge impact. The rest of the game felt very average to me.
Part II pulled at my heartstrings from beginning to end though.

I don't know. Everything the first game did, I'd seen done better in previous games. I never really understood the hype, tbh.
I went into the second game thinking I wouldn't like it from my experience with the first, but it blew me away.

I'm curious what games you're talking about. Care to elaborate?

It's not that hard to think of a few games that have better stealth mechanics, cover mechanics, writing, crafting, AI, plot etc.

I will say TLOU did most of the above incredibly well; only the premise felt generic to me.
