    Random question... do we think this will actually release on schedule?

    Given the plaguey-apocalypsey themes, the timing might not be great. Even if they're not worried about media outcry, I can imagine sales may take a hit.

    Why would they with digital downloads?

    And people don't buy games from shops they just order online.

    @JamboWayOh Because people looking for escapism aren't likely to feel like general plaguey apocalypsey grimdark at the moment. Might not deter hardcore fans, but I could see it pushing casual sales down.

    @Rogueywon

    I don't see it tbh.

    I think it could get delayed. I realised yesterday just how limited some of my entertainment is in scope, so many are apocalyptic themes. Something light hearted would be nice sometimes.

    Hmm... I dunno. I just see the marketing for this being tricky at the moment, in a world where people are waiting to hear whether granny has croaked from Covid and whether the mobs have looted the local supermarket for Andrex.

    Nah, if any games company's behind Covid, it's got to be Nintendo. The timing really couldn't be better for the new Animal Crossing.

    When did Roguey become the EG version of Michael Pachter?

    Fucks sake, I had it paid for already and with the likelihood of neither of us having jobs and being utterly fucked financially it was one of the few things I was looking forward to.

    I blame roguey.

    Might as well count Ghost of Tsushima in that delay at this rate.

    Bitterly disappointed.
    @Frogofdoom summed it up.

    What a fucking year. No sport, no films, no telly, no games.

    Well, guess I'll just have to stick to pornhub for my girl on girl action.

    Looks like it's going to be a year when a lot of studios have to make a choice between digital-only releases or no releases. Naughty Dog will presumably have loads of Sony cash in the bank that means they can afford to delay the release. Studios who are closer to the wire financially may have to go digital-only and hope for the best.

    Providing us with the best possible launch = we won't make as much money.

    Twats. I'm okay with schools closing, I can put up with idiots clapping the NHS, I can stomach the police stopping me asking me why I'm driving but delaying tlou2 is a step too far.

    @Bichii With the kind of budget this will have had, they probably end up losing money on it if it's anything other than an absolutely massive hit.

    It;s not really a case of digital vs physical. If studios are finaling games, which is when a lot of the magic happens in pulling it all together and adding polish, and the teams are all working from home it becomes almost impossible to finish the game.

    Studios earlier in production should be able to manage a lot better, providing they have the ability to work remotely in the first place. Things like mocap and voice talent will be impossible though.

    The chances of it not being an absolutely massive hit are close to zero. I don't mind about the delay, something..something. Miyamoto.somethingdelayed game

    I look forward to a jazzed-up PS5 version.

    Plus the inevitable post launch patches. I think anything triple a is going to meet the same fate for a while.

    I don't see indefinitely as 'until there's a vaccine', more that they just aren't able to commit to a firm date. This might still release this year.

    Yeah I'm assuming the delay is because the game isn't actually finished and the safety of the staff comes first, not worrying about lost sales from physical.

    The kotaku article seems to posit the opposite.
