New game... by me and my small team. Some of the guys on here enjoyed our last game The Hungry Horde, and given I'm (or at least used to be) a forum regular, I thought it might be cool to post a sort of Q&A style thing here about the game.

Pleased with the game so far and I finally found time to do a proper trailer (cameo by me at the end).

I really want that. I love idle clickers, twin stick shooters, mini-games and a bit of humour :)

It looks like it'd be ideal for my Linx Vision if it has full controller support on the Steam version. Is that the plan? Also Steam Cloud support would be lovely as it'd let me play on my proper PC too, but I wouldn't expect that so it wouldn't be a dealbreaker or anything.

@DFawkes I'm listening!!! We still have to implement PC control stuff. It currently works with keyboard or generic controller at the moment, but we want to add a proper mapping screen etc.

We're doing cross save from PS4 to Vita and Xbox One has cloud save support too. We're still toying with having a proper cloud save system so you can go between PC and console and eventually a companion app (but that will be post release), so steam cloud could be worth doing, but right now I don't want to promise it in case we don't have time.

Edit: i.e. my scheduling leaves a lot to be desired :)

I just watched the trailer. Looks pretty interesting.

Would I be right in thinking that it's a twin stick shooter at heart, but with some resource management aspects. And mini-games...?

Edit: And do you have a rough idea of when it'll be released?

@Flying_Pig Release date is... erm... still under wraps (i.e. when it's finished), but pretty much Q1-2 of next year. Game is almost feature complete, so it's bug fixing, balancing and polishing from here on out.

Basic gameplay loop is: Fly about in open space shooting stuff (super stardust style) and occasionally getting locked into wave based battles (geometry wars style). Everything you kill drops "moolah", which is used to upgrade ship, radar, weapons etc, and used to build stuff on planets!

Fly to a planet and land, and you can build factories, farms, casinos etc, cookie clicker style, which generate more cash. In order to unlock these you need to fulfil mid term goals like "build something on 6 planets", "destroy 1000 asteroids", "play 6 minigames" etc.

So you soon end up flying from planet to planet picking up moolah and fending off attacks/farming more moolah. What starts out as a simple idle clicker quickly becomes a sort of management of several clickers, with shooting to get between them. If you're so inclined there's also a bit of depth to the idle mechanics, where as you upgrade buildings they have an effect on each other (the more farms you have the better the miners are fed etc). It's all dressed up in hyper cynical corporate greed.

In terms of your ship we have a lot of unlocks for it, from stuff like enabling bullet time to creating an explosion when you boost. The weapon system is something I'm pretty pleased with. Basically if you've played Gunstar Heroes you'll know the drill, but we have the ability to mix 3 weapon types together so have 19 weapon combos.

Oh and there's a sort of tamagotchi virtual pet system where you keep execs happy by feeding them caviar and champagne for them to boost production. Each of the 12 execs has minigames (including a little doom style FPS).

The thinking behind it comes from a sort of frustration...

I loved geometry wars and its ilk, but i only ever played it for 5 minutes before i put something else on. I also got completely hooked on idle clickers (partly through researching this) but always felt like they were a sort of fleeting thing that never really needed me (obviously this is part of their appeal).

If we could create something that gave you the fun second to second gameplay of a twin stick shooter, but also gave you a reason to keep coming back, and playing each gameplay style over and over again in short bursts, would it work? We did a sort of gamejam to test out the idea and within 2 days we had a prototype that was really addictive (like actually properly addictive enough to take a vita testkit home and play it for fun).

Cheers for the answer :) Linx Vision has a generic controller mode so it might be fine. I'll definitely keep an eye on things as this game really sounds right up my street.

An interview I did with Cultured Vultures. Offers a bit of insight into the thinking behind the game.

We're gonna be playable at EGX next week, and if you're there you can see my face and speak to it!

Look out for green tentacles. On the stand, not my face.

Voted for. That Trailer and that Greenlight frontpage is slick as fuck.

Also going to share it on Jim Sterling's reddit. He does a Greenlight Goodstuff video series where he trawls Greenlight for the submissions that manage to stand out. This is the sort of slocky, tongue-in-cheek submission that will probably draw his attention.

    EDIT:

    @dadrester

Hey Dadrester? In the comments section of your submission, you're accused of being allied with Steam Booster. What's up with that?

Did you turn to the black market in desperation previously?

@Skirlasvoud No bloody idea. I didn't even know what steam boosters were until I saw that. Apparently our publisher has someone on their friends list who's a baddie. Looking at the stats, it all seems to be "organic" up-votes, so I'm presuming they're not using the steam boosters, but it's disappointing knowing that we've had several downvotes just because our pub has someone dodgy on their friend list. :(
