Thought i'd kick off some threads about some of the upcoming Switch games as we don't really have much of a chance to chat about them in the console thread, which seems to be advancing at quite a rate at the minute anyway.|
So, Arms. A new IP from Nintendo that looks like a rather a bizarre twist to the Punch Out!! series. The game makes use of the advanced motion controls of the Joy-Con controllers, but can also be played with more traditional inputs, for those who'd rather sit down whilst boxing. It'll support local and online multiplayer, too.

I'm rather looking forward to this one myself. I'm a big fan of the original Punch Out!! I'm also quite into games with decent motion control use, so that probably helps. We've yet to hear any substantial details about single player content, so who knows if it's worth the price of admission.

I'm just happy to see any new IP to be honest, so that's pretty good already
I'm not sure it's really my cup of tea though. I'm not a massive fan of punchy smashy boop boppers at the best of times as I tend to suck at them, but it does look like the sort of thing that might have some surprising hidden depth to it. I really like the sound of the HD rumble for it, where you're supposed to feel the arms unreel as you punch.
If other EGers buy it, I could probably be convinced to buy it too for some online fun, but it's not something I'd pre-order without seeing other EGers thoughts post release.
I'm not normally into beat 'em ups myself, either. I love Street Fighter II Turbo. I love Punch Out!!, but that's about it. They're both easy to pick up and dip in and out of. This definitely has that same vibe, so i'm very much interested.
Hopefully we can get this thread pushed over into the Switch category!

It looks decent but I can't understand why they'd have such nice character models and then just horrible spectators with 4 frames of animation.
Super Mario Strikers all those years ago had a much better looking crowd.

I'm in the same boat, not usually my kind of game but something about it looks intriguing and makes me want to try it. My only issue would be how much you could play for at one time, looks like it might get old quite quickly.

number One Switch game 4 me! Seriously, this is Arcade fresh with fun inside
One of those games where I'm interested if other people are interested. Looks like it could be fun to mess around in with scope for more sophisticated play for those who want it. Mostly it reminds me of the boxing game in Super Monkey Ball which I really enjoyed.

Looks like great fun. I just hope there's a Punch-Out style campaign mode as well. There has to be, right?

Just looks like an extension (no pun intended) of Wii Boxing.
I think this looks pretty good. It needs content though at the price they're asking. Be interested to see if there is a single player campaign as such.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Just seen the cover of the new Edge on social media. It's got ARMS on the cover. Title is
Nintendo's stunning new fighting game lands the killer blow for the Switch

I can't wait for the "Arms doesn't have legs" headlines/sub-headings if this is average.
Be even funnier if it turned out Essential. Comments section on the front page will be a hoot! I really hope this reviews well. I loved the brief time I played it.
Yellow joy cons? Hmm...

I've got a feeling this will barely make a 'recommended'. Hats off to Nintendo for trying with more new IP's but it looks shite to me.
It's not out for a while so it's probably just a play on words preview. Videos shown so far don't seem to have convinced many people. I think it looks really interesting but might be the kind of game you need to try out to really get it. Hopefully there will be a demo.
It's the June issue and it's out in June. Didn't Edge also have the first Zelda review?
Really interested to find out more.
Ah, that makes sense. I'm going to pick it up as I quite enjoyed Pokken Tournament on the Wii U even although I'm not a big fan of fighting games. Nintendo needs to alter the perception that it's more complex than Wii Boxing. I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun in local multiplayer. Could be pricey if a second set of joycons are needed.

You'll need 2 sets for 2 player local.
My main hope is that Arms will do for fighting games what Splatoon did for shooters.
