Tried out the demo for the first time. Having mixed feelings about it. Only played 1v1 which was the best out of all of them. I will play more tonight just to be sure.

Does anyone know what the lobbies will be like on release? Really don't want 4 player (well online) or the volleyball game?

    @grassyknoll There's a ranked mode purely for 1v1 affairs.

Getting a bit more used to the controls but why do they always have to have commands so out of reach?

Changing lock on in 3 or 4 player is woeful. It ruins the game. There has to be a better button?

1v1 seems pretty cool so far.

    I have very mixed feelings.

I get it, you're supposed to wrap your finger round to it I guess?

    Yup, that is much easier.

@DangerousDave_87 That's good to know if I decide to get it.

The game feels real fun and immediate, but can't help but feel I'll get bored very quickly of it. Seems more of a budget title than massive release. Probably down to me playing so many incredible games this year (Prey, Persona 5, Zelda, Nier, Nioh etc).

So it seems about 50/50 in terms of people liking/not liking it from comments I've seen on various sites.

Well, i'm knackered! 1 hour is more than long enough a stint for a game this physical. Especially in this heat! It's very hard!

I wish I had more time fighting against the AI. I lost both fights to the computer before heading online and then lost my first 3 or 4 games on there, too! The lobby training is good enough to let you get a feel for punching, but it didn't feel like much help in the actual fights! That and when you're getting your backside handed to you, it's hard not to want to stop thinking about how to fight and flail your arms around hopelessly instead. This obviously doesn't help at all and only makes things worse!

My biggest complaint is that target button, though. I can wrap my fingers around the Joy Con to reach it, but it means my thumbs are no longer placed over the L button properly, which obviously impacts my dodging. That could have easily been the X button on the right Joy Con and I could reach it effortlessly.

Overall though, I actually enjoyed what i've played so far. The learning difficulty is a lot more steep than Mario Kart, but it looks to have as much depth as any Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat game i've ever played. The motion controls are rock solid, too. No input issues or any feelings that there was a delay. They were sharp and responsive. I really liked them.

Sadly fairly underwhelmed by this. I can see it has more depth than first appears but, after this afternoon and this evening's play windows, I'm just not that bothered about loading it up again tomorrow. It's just... alright.

I remember the first hour that I played the Splatoon Testfire on the Wii U. I was instantly hooked. The hour flew by and I wanted more. This, however, I glanced at the clock and only half an hour was gone and I'd had enough.

I can see that there is some depth to the game, that there are strategies to figure out, but I don't think fighting games are for me. I had the same problems here that I have with Smash Bros. For what it's worth, the best was 2v2, the worst was volleyball.

Never looked like a game with lasting appeal for me. Played it briefly last night, I'll give it another go but i cant possibly see we paying the 50, or even 40 Nintendo will probably want for it.

No, 20 and I'd buy it just to have in the back pocket for when my imaginary friends are over. I'm guessing from the marketing though that Ninty are going to ask full whack for it though.

The alternate physical controls were enabled on the beta. Though there didn't seem to be any way to control the curve on your punches, at the same time, the tighter controls meant you had an instant edge.

This resulted for me two glaring issues, people who don't use motion controls will have a clear advantage. Also by using the sticks and face buttons for punches, it did reveal how limited the combat is.

Had high hopes, but I'm far from sold on this one

I really enjoyed it. Admittedly my first 15 minutes weren't great as I was struggling to get to grips with the controls but a bit of perseverance and patience and I ended up winning fights and having a laugh.

Any type of fighting game is going to be niche but this one should have a bit broader appeal than most I think. It's never going (imo) to be as popular as MK or Splatoon though.

I've gone from ambivalence to really liking it in 3 hours.

Volley ball improves once you realise throw actually tees the ball up for a smash.

Yeah this really isn't for me. It's good they're trying something different and using the tech, just not my bag.

Just tried it out, had a few matches and just couldn't get the feel for it. If anything the motion control was a little too sensitive. The first 1st party game i won't be getting on the Switch.

I reckon the test punch would've been better if we were able to play against the ai and practice at a more leisurely pace. While I enjoyed it, I would've enjoyed if more if I could have spent a lot more time getting used to the controls. Still a buy for me, even if I think I'll mostly play against EG friends in a casual way.

Played a few more matches and I have to agree that there is a lot that needs to improve on. It's a great concept but I feel like it's missing a lot.

The Joycon motion controls is too sensitive that I can't either jump or sidestep sometimes. The pro controller is way better because it would let me do that.

I'll probably give it a miss though unless they reduce the retail value to like 25. No way spending 50 for that.

I had a much better time with it in this last hour, even managing to win a few matches. It'd be nice to have it around for the 20 minutes I'd occasionally play it for, but 50 seems a bit steep for what it is. I'll keep playing the test hours, see if it clicks some more.
